Neo Geo Cabinet update for $175.. what do you think?

when looking at the board... is the black plastic thing on the right the cartrage? thats that actual game? and can be switched out?

I don't think you need an adaptor.....

Is the board wired for stereo or Mono (check the switch on the board).

If it is wired for Mono, you don't need to make any changes to put in a regular Jamma Board...

Note: Nearly all conversion cabs are wired for mono.

im assuming its stereo because i can test the rig and do left speaker right speaker both speakers...

but if thats just a generic test to see if speakers are working were do i look to see how its wired for mono or stereo? threw the jamma harness or somewere on the board?

I know this is a little more than you want right now, but the NEO was my first cab as well and I had the same board....so check your battery. If it starts to leak you may have problems. If you know of someone that can solder, just replace it now before it happens. Other than that I have loved mine and went to a 138-1 board.

i can solder... i have done things "allegedly" to xbox's and stuff back in the day.. but thats a good idea just to replace it before anything like that happens

If you get a left out of the left speaker (and only the left speaker), and a right out of the right speaker (and only the right speaker)... And (center) triggers both speakers at a much wider volume, then it is wired for stereo...

If it is wired for mono... You will hear a sound for both rights and lefts from the test menu... Center should be a bit louder.

Note:
There also is a switch on the board... It says Stereo/Mono.

I think it is near the JAMMA edge...

so to make a regular jamma game work would i have to switch it to mono?

If it is wired for stereo, you may have to find the MVS to Jamma adapter. Switching it on the board won't do anything about the JAMMA harness if it is.

2 things to consider:
#1 it's not a dedicated Neo Geo, rather a Dynamo cab.
#2 it is a 1 slot board.
I would say with 99% certainty, that this is a jamma harness in there, and that if the cab has stereo sound, it is not wired through the jamma harness. If it does have stereo sound (the MV-1 boards had the option for stereo) it is done through a "kick" type harness, not through the Jamma harness.
The only reason I won't say 100% on this is it is remotely possible that this cab originally had a 2,4, or 6 slot board in it, and was originally wired for that, and someone yanked that board and threw in a 1 slot. I strongly doubt that this is the case (since if it was, the 1 slot board would potentially be damaged as well), but you never know.

One more thing, if you want to rest a bit easier, the NeoGeo Pinout doesn't use a -5v, so check your harness (like the one pictured below) and see if there is a wire going to the -5v pin.(and make sure the wire is hooked up to something) if it is, chances are much better that it is using a jamma pinout and not a neo-geo pinout...

the speakers are stereo and they are both run off a connector directly onto the board.. there are two wires for each speaker.. and all four lead to one connector that plugs directly into the board...

its also a jamma harness for 100% sure... so can i run wires for the jamma harness and splice into the speaker wires for when i have a jamma board in so that the sound works?

ok now after looking at it and seeing the jamma pin out... it is already wired for sounds... at least it was at once.. when someone converted this to neo geo they cut the wires for sounds and spliced on the connector for the neo board thats in there... the wires run up the inside of the cab and are just cut... what i'll do is just make an easy way to attach these speaker wires back up so when i put in a jamma game it runs normal.. when i go back to neo geo i can unhook the wires directly from the jamma harness and hook the connector for the neo geo board back up for speakers and its back to the way it is now.

does that make sense?
