Hi everyone. A friend of mine asked for some help regarding his Neo Geo upright. The monitor is displaying video in a narrow band onscreen. He has attempted to make adjustments to the video settings on the Neo Geo board but it doesn't solve the problem. I have yet to see it in person to make any adjustments to the monitor yet. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on by looking at this screen shot? Thanks!

Vertical collapse is usually from failing caps and/or faulty vertical IC.
The IC may just need a reflow, but there is a good chance the chip is just dead.
Less likely is another part failing..like a diode or resistor.

I would remove the chassis and inspect the vertical IC. If it has cracked joints reflow and
retest. If the IC joints looks good I would recap and replace the IC while the chassis is removed.
(It wouldn't be a bad idea to reacap either way :) )

Find out what monitor is int here first. Neos came with a K7000 most of the time. If it is a K7000, do a cap kit, reflow all header pins, and look for cold solder joints on the entirety of the pcb (very common.)

If it is a K7000 the vertical IC is not a likely culprit.

Find out what kind of monitor it is first.

yup what he said.

the K7000 very rarely blows the vertical IC. it is usually cold solder or another component or pot that is bad.
