Hi Folks! This is my first post here. Unfortunately it's a crappy one.

I was playing my dedicated Neo Geo 1 slot cabinet the other day and it abruptly went black and started making a VERY loud noise like a giant bug zapper. I have opened up the back of the cabinet and turned it on really quick just to get a peek of exactly where the sound was coming from. THere is a suction cup on the monitor that has a red wire coming off of it. This wire I traced to a gray box like object that is on the motherboard directly below the monitor. When I looked here with the power on I noticed some sort of electrical lightning bolt right by this gray box, and a weird smell. Here is some info I got off my monitor. Hopefully this helps.

Zenith G-A638DG25X
04RC0105-009
OEM 184111

I am almost certain I have a 25 inch monitor

So I guess at this point I should figure out what I need to do. So if someone can direct me to a good website with the parts I need that would be awesome. Cause I have no idea what I am looking for. Also, how do I discharge the monitor? I unplugged it, but I hear it can take a few weeks before it's safe.

I know absolutely nothing about electronics, I would like a good cheap fix if possible. But if ceap is going to be hard then I would rather pay more. I would also pay someone to fix this issue for me if you live in the Columbus Ohio area.

Yup - sounds like a blown flyback transformer.

With a photo we can ID it. Can even talk you through removing the chassis you can get it to someone that can repair it.

If it's a K7000 I can repair it.

here's some pics. Thanks for the help. Would just replacing the flyback be better, or replacing the whole chassis?

Looks like a K7000 to me. Going to need to be rebuilt w/a new flyback. I did mine when I first got my Neo Geo, and it had the same problem.

FYI - if you look on those stickers on the left, chances are you'll see a number like 25K7----, like 25k7401 or something. Thats the model # of the chassic. We call it a K7000 because thats a family of chassis that were used on a lot of games.

It's a 25K7000 all right - and it looks like the flyback has been replaced before.

Is it otherwise working other than the lightning bolts? If so, I'd just replace the flyback.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have been in contact with a guy from these forums and we have already purchased a cap kit and flyback from realbobroberts and if everything goes as planned, he is going to come over and guide me through the fix Wednesday. Again, thanks so much to everyone for the help identifying the problem and the type of minitor. My first experience here has been a good one. Hopefuly in the future I can help future members as you all have helped me. I don't care what everyone says, you all are pretty kick-ass!

Translation: I don't care what everyone at the NEO forums say.... I'm a member there also and was giving you advice over there. The technical info here is much better especially on monitors.

Channelmaniac is a good member in both forums, though.

That's just one of those things I say to people all the time. I was referred to these forums from a member of the neo forums. I been on this website alot over the years, and I never even noticed that there was a forums.
