I would have posted this over at the other forums, but I can't I'm too new to post attachments. I know Channelmanic is the guru at this sort of stuff so I'm wondering if someone can tell me what shape my battery is in. It looks good to me but would still like another opinion. Thanks

Doug

looks like the battery was replaced at one time, however after it already leaked its goodness on the board.

are you having problems?

as the battery damage from before could still be eating away at the traces, and causing a failure.

AHHHHHGGGGHHH!!!!

Get that battery off that board NOW. It's leaking badly and you can see the corrosion on the board, under the ground plane around the battery, and on the traces around it.

It's pretty bad.

And, no, that IS the original battery.

Oh, and the Neo will run without it. You just won't have the ability to save settings (soft dips) or high scores.

OK, thanks. I will take it out as soon as I get home. I will also remove the one in my working board. What store do you recommend to get replacement batteries from?
Also, to test these traces, would a multi-meter in continuity mode test these traces to so if they have been eaten away or is there another way?

Not to take anything away from ChannelManic's suggestions, but I usually just replace these with a coin-cell battery holder and then use lithium watch batteries. You disable the charge circuit by removing the 470 Ohm resistor from the board (works on MOST models).

You can see detailed tutorials on: http://www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/tutorials.html (Click on Neo Geo, MVS, then look for the "Upgrading your battery" guides.)

Easy as pie, RadioShack sells all of the parts. I see you are in Canada, I think "The Source" is your RadioShack equivalent? I'm sure they'd sell the stuff too.

You aren't taking anything away. It's an alternate solution. :)

Hi Channelmanic, can I ask you a question about Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3?
