neo geo 6 slot backup ram error 00d00008 5555 5515- I just need to know what chip

Howdy yall!!,
I was testing a Neo Geo 6 slot and I'm getting a " backup ram error 00d00008 5555 5515" I have seen similar threads, but none specificly about that number. I just need to know what needs replaced so I can do it and get it over with. I don't have time to dig much. Hoping someone will just know.

Thanks

Its probably not a chip that is at fault, it is probably the classic track damage from the backup battery leaking.

The message means it tried to write the test pattern 5555 and got 5515 back, this is hex so its hard to see how this applies to the board, but in binary you get the following

5555 = 101010101010101

5515 = 101010100010101

Spot the difference, most likely you have lost the 7th data line connecting to the lower of the two backup SRAM chips. It could be the chip itself but track damage is far far far more likely.

So if the address ends in an 8 the chip is bad?

The "8" isn't really important. It's that it's NOT all 0s.

I think the point is that if it's a broken trace, it will be bad from the very 1st byte (address all 0s).

Yep, all bytes would be bad, not just some, serves me right for not reading the error message fully :)

...backup ram error 00d00008 5555 5515...

So if the address ends in an 8 the chip is bad?

If the RAM error occurs at the base boundary of the chip (Address 0000, or in this case 00d00000), then it could be a bad chip or a bad trace.

Since the error is at 00d00008 and not at 00d00000 then it's most likely the chip and not a bad trace. The 8 is 8 bytes from 0... and inside the chip instead of at the base boundary.
