Looking for a Neo Geo 4 slot board for a good price. I have 2 that have problems if someone knows how to fix them and would be interested in a trade. One has no sound and plays perfect (I ran the headphone wires to the speakers to get sound). One has sound but only boots to the test screen.

I sell cap kits on my web site that will fix the audio problems on one of your boards...

As for the other... remove the battery and patch the damaged traces to the connector next to it. Battery leakage and dead traces next to it are common causes of the cartridges not being recognized.

I have a couple of repaired bottom boards that I can swap you out for your bad ones... $50ea plus shipping.

Do batteries have to be replaced once they are removed? Are they necessary for the board to work?

Only if you want to save soft dips for games and clock/calendar settings.

On any of the NG game boards with the NiCd batteries you can pull the 470 ohm resistor next to the battery and replace the battery with a coin cell holder and a CR2032 battery.

Would you happen to know what might cause the first slot on a 4 slot to have messed up graphics on any game inserted? The game works. And yes I cleaned the contacts very well, and I didn't see any broken traces.

Bad socket contact... bad/gouged/corroded traces... It's not very common to have bad chips on the top board that affect graphics on just one slot as they are all tied together between slots. Usually all 4 chips tied together go out one after the other and cause corruption on all slots.

Thanks man, I cleaned and inspected the slot very closely and didn't see anything. Would using a continuity tester be sensitive enough to find the issue? If I test at the socket where would be the best place to check at the other end? I imagine like you said that the problem would be before the point where game switching portion is...

Both those issues are pretty cheap, easy and COMMON! I say just fix it, because there's a good chance the one you trade for one get it eventually.

The sound on these just go out. They will be scratchy, or increase in volume over time, or just be out. You an buy a total cap kit to replace them (each cap kit is unique for the version of MVS you have). Also, the one issue where the game goes to the test menu only is battery corrosion on the traces. A VERY easy fix. For more info, go to neo-geo.com 's forums. I ended up doing both of these procedures on mine, and now I have a perfectly working Neo Geo 4 slot mobo.

Thanks. I have ordered a cap kit but the one that won't load the traces all look pretty good. I can't find any that look broken.

I will vouch for channel, if you want to be headache free just swap him your bad board and some cash. you will be up and running in no time flat. I got a repaired board off him awhile ago in trade and it's still running great!
