Neo Geo 4 Slot RAM ERROR, anyone repair these?

MVS boards are a specialty of mine.

Surface Mount repairs are $40 plus shipping - excluded cart slots and batteries.

I had a 4 slot board repaired by channelmanic and it worked perfectly. He does great work and is great to deal with.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

DreamTR: You have a PM.

I've been crazy busy with the day job so I haven't been checking the forums as much as normal this week.

Well, it's been 5 weeks and I don't have my PCB back and no PM answering...not sure what to do about this.....

Niiiice.... I missed 1 PM from you on 9/7.

I still have it... I'm going to simply have to buy a box to ship it back in as I haven't found a good used box to ship it in. I'm very surprised it survived the initial shipping to here in the box it was shipped in. I'll post pics for everyone to see. ;)

I can be slow at times because I have a day job that requires travel and a lot of hours. My dream is to take my arcade business full time but it sure is hard to divorce myself from the salary and perks (Health insurance, stock options, restricted stock options, ESPP, and more) they throw at me to do the day job!

Patience man, CM does some great work. Sometimes repairs can take longer than you expect and sometimes certain unique parts have to be ordered as well. CM has a great rep here and does a ton of work for us over at the Neo-Geo forums.

Channelmanic: I'm glad you are still alive, and all I ask is communication, but please don't turn this on me.

I understand we all have jobs/family/whatever, I'm just going by you making the initial contact here about the PCB, and that's about it, but let's look at the facts, 5 weeks is still a very long time.

ReplicaX: This is a common problem, so parts aren't exactly the reason why this is delayed. 5 weeks is not something anyone wants to wait on a repair for. Last I heard from channelmanic was 2-3 weeks ago about the board, so I think I have been very patient about this. You guys seem to forget that when D-Lite started doing this, the same things were said about him and look what ended up happening...

All I want is communication about the status, that's all, but in no way should this be turned on me. You guys would have been all over someone else if they did this.

I appreciate channelmanic for doing this, but again, he contacted me about this, and 5 weeks is a very long time.

Not really -- alot of us have been waiting over a year for DKII artwork and miraculously I still manage to sleep at night. In the grand scheme of things, it's just games.

In the grand scheme of things? If you think that's how business/hobby stuff is supposed to be run, I'm not sure what to think. I run an arcade. It's not good business for us to have games down 5 weeks at a time. Sure, it's just games, you can say that about anything, but if that's the attitude people have then everyone would be out of business.

I guarantee you if I took 5 weeks to ship something, the hounds would be on me as a seller, I don't see the difference.

Did you mention the fact that you "run an arcade" before sending your item out for repair? Did he guarantee some sort of lead time for your repair? If not, then perhaps some more due diligence was required on your part, as a business owner.

I'm not saying anything other than 5 weeks isn't alot of time for repairs to take place when most of the people doing the repairs have jobs & families and are doing this as a second "job"... Frankly I'm just glad we have these people to call on at all.

That's seriously laughable. It's like saying people would have the right to keep something for a year because I did not "give anyone notice I need it back before a year."

I understand people have stuff to do and other obligations. Why take on more than you can handle? You really think I am the one to blame because it's been this long? I still have to provide money for a service, and someone else will that needs the money, it's plain and simple. I just can't get over how you think it's ok for this to occur. When someone buys something from me on eBay, I am going to tell them the things you said. "I didn't know you needed this within 2 months, you should have specified it." I'm sure I won't have everything locked here.

I'm sorry, stuff like that does not fly, the person PROVIDING the service has to be more upfront about the delays, that's all I ask. I can handle the delay(s) IF I know what is going on, and I did not here.

Honestly, there is no reason to getting this to go public, so this can/should be locked, I just needed to know the status because I did not get a PM response, and obviously my post here did the job pretty efficiently.

Well, I'm glad I wasn't on vacation if that was your response after 3 days on a PM. :001_ssuprised:

channelmanic is a a+ guy and goes above and beyond in helping people fix their own problems before he even hints he he also can charge to repair things

did you not read the quote above wich was posted before you contacted him to fix your board he states that work is keeping him busy

i cant really say who is or was in the wrong in this case as i ve seen no responses on either side with email or other
but i learned a long time ago with people in this hobby that preform repairs (or even when ordering arcade parts) ,if its somthing that you must have asap then make it verry clear in your inital contact with the repairman (or seller). and make shure he confirms that he can complete your repair (or deliver your parts) within the time you need it ,only then can you complain when it takes longer than you expected or required to complete

Glad back in the 90s when I was an OP I just tossed in another game or swapped cabinets when waiting on parts or the occasional repair... unless it was a redemption game.

It should not be that way. What you are saying is that it is ok for someone to wait weeks at a time to even ship things ordered because people are busy.

www.arcadecomponents.com exists as a business site I would assume. Now this question is hypothetical: If I order something from there, what happens if I pay $100 for parts and they don't arrive in 6 weeks and I pay with PayPal? I'm just supposed to keep waiting and not file a claim because it's arcade parts?

Like I said, I sell/buy things all the time. Money/repeat business are a big deal to me for communication and timeliness. If someone is going to ask me where to order parts from, I am going to help out the person that gets the job done without the usual obligation passive/aggressive stuff.

You guys can think what you want about the situation, but in no way should I have to "specify" I need something in ample time if it's ALREADY BEEN 5 WEEKS. Ample time is 2-3 weeks. I have no received communication in weeks. I did not receive a PM response for 3 days but as soon as something is posted in this thread the floodgates come out.

Put yourself in my shoes. It's just bad business to not at least INFORM the person you are going to be ANOTHER 2 weeks late at least.

AND..the best one...if you feel you won't have time, DON'T TAKE ON THE PROJECT. That's the #1 thing I have a pet peeve with. I'm running 120 games, and we need to make sure our stuff is on target which is what sets us apart from most other operators and the usual "oh it's sent off, it'll be back one of these days and we'll get it up and running one of these days."

ReplicaX: 4 Slot Neo boards on a 4 Slot Cabinet = not exactly swapping material.

Again, nothing against channelmanic, but if you don't have time to get it done, you should not take on the project.

And again, I stress, 5 weeks is NEVER all right. Imagine if you were waiting 5 weeks in ANY type of business, secondary, hobby, or whatever, it should NEVER take that long to repair something unless it is being completely refurbished here. We're talking 1-2 chips on a board here, not refurbishing a vintage jukebox, LOL....

I'm not upset, I just think it's hilarious that it is "ok" for this to occur in this hobby supposedly, but if the shoe was on the other foot and I decided I had no time to ship something for 5 weeks, I'd be called a "scammer" among other things.

You have a PM asking for the name this should be shipped to as I cannot read your writing on the repair request form.

The total has been figured out and the email awaits your response.

The board has been fixed since 8/17 when I emailed you. I tried to find a freebie box for you and simply had to go buy one tonight. The box you shipped it in was too small and the 4 slot sustained damage because of it.

http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=152.msg34644#msg34644 is the repair log entry for your repair.

Edit: And I wrapped it in an anti-static bag for the return trip. It was a PITA digging all the styrofoam pieces out of every nook & cranny on the board when it arrived.

I've had many boxes of boards come and go since yours has been sitting here. Yes, I should've bought the box a long time ago. Please accept my apology on it. I did try to get you a better box to ship it back. I don't have a huge stash of boxes laying around other than the freebie USPS Priority Mail ones that I ship parts out in.
