What do you guys think a nice Neo Geo with 4 games in it is worth? Trying to get an idea of its value and whether or not to pick one up? Is this a machine that is one that I will grow tired of or treasure forever?

I see dedicated ones sold wholesale for $450-500 if they are working. You can always get a Multi-Neo cart to extend the replay value a great bit.

Dedicated?
Condition?
Marquee lights, credit displays, and card reader?

I have a dedicated 1 slot in very nice condition that I paid about $300 for. I added a multicart (120in1) and it's definitely a well played machine at my home.

A 4 slot game.... I'd think $300 to $600 if it's a nice dedicated machine. Could go for more possibly.

As far as your game tastes, just depends on what you like. This is likely the most advanced side scrolling system out there and you can collect the cartridges too. Multicart options also abound that run on the original hardware.

Dedicated four slot Neo's aren't uncommon. I'd say $300-$400, condition depending.

Lots and lots of game cartridges for the Neo, but only a few good ones. Unless, of course, you like fighting games - in which case you're all set.

That is pretty cheap.

Like others have said:

Is it a dedicated machine or conversion?
What carts come with it?
Any issues?
Is all of the art (marquee, CPO, etc.) intact?

I'd say in the SFBA, a dedicated working 4-slot will go for $300-600 depending on condition and what carts are in it. They are probably one of the most common machines you'll see up for sale. Almost every op buyout or auction game list usually has a few of these.

To answer your question, it's a great machine if you're a fan of JAMMA games of the early 90s. There is a great mix of games for the system for any type of gamer. Whether you like side scrollers, shmups, fighting, puzzle, sports, etc., there's something for everyone. The nice thing about it is that if you get bored of games, you can build your cart collection and periodically swap them out.

A dedicated 25" 4-slot, original cabinet?

Yes.

I have one. I know a guy that has three of them. I've seen several for sale in the last few years - one guy couldn't get it to move for $300. I've even seen a couple on location in recent years.

Maybe it just depends on the area. But, remember, there's nothing special about a Neo - it's just a generic looking red cabinet, with plain single color side "art". It's kind of nice that the control panel flips down to make it easy to get at the cartridges, but beyond that, the cabinet is incredibly poorly designed. Ever try to work on a monitor in one of those? At least it's not as annoying to move around as a Z-back.

I think the cabinet design is great.

Like you said, the CP flips down and makes it easy to access the carts and remote board. In addition, the service/power/fuse is accessible through top coin door, the EL marquee lights (cool concept, but expensive to replace), headphone/memory slot.

Is the monitor that hard to work on? In my MVS-4 Ver. 2, once you remove the back door, the whole 25K7000 monitor is easily accessible.

Yes, your location is why, I would think. And yes the included carts matter a lot.

I didn't find working on the monitor to bad, open the back access door, and pop the chassis out.

I don't know the one I had was so minty, I guess I am bias.

I just picked up a VERY nice dedicated 2 slot with headphone jacks and card reader for $400. However, I did just spend $50 on new sticks and buttons, but the cab, board, and monitor were very very nice.

Price is always depend on location and condition.
Out here in S. Cal these go for more.
A convert neo geo tend to sell at the 200 mark. 2 or 4 slot.
a 4 slot in a dedicated cab normally goes for 400 to 800 Depends on the games installed.

Thanks for the insight guys!

Thanks to everyone that gave some insight into my question. I went to pick up a 4 cart Neo Geo 25" dedicated cabinet today that was in pretty nice shape overall today. It had
Metal Slug 3, Strikers 1945 Plus, King of Fighters '97, and Bust-a-Move carts in it but the seller could not get it to work on site. He eventually sold it to me for $50 because we noticed that the rear fuse holder was broken off so there was no way to test the machine. On the way home, I stopped off at a Radio Shack and picked up a new fuse holder. Installed it when I got home and the machine fired right up and works great! Guess I got pretty lucky on this one!

Wow! Congratulations on the sweet deal! Metal Slug 3 alone is worth more than $50. Haha.

The other 3 games are pretty popular titles as well and you got a great mix with them. I'd say you have at least $200-250 worth of carts right there.

Oh, and pics or it didn't happen. :D

Wow! Lucky day!

I've been trying to get a MVS-4 (v2) for a while and trying to get the two that are currently for sale in my area down to $500 ... and they're not interested.
