Neo Geo 2-slot cabinet wiring help

Hey guys.

I have this 2-slot neo geo, that when I plug it up and turn the power on, it blows a fuse in my breaker box, but nothing inside the cabinet. I'm thinking I've got something messed up in the cabinet, but I'm unsure where the problem is.

Does anyone have a cabinet wiring schematic that I can reference?

More specifically, I noticed that my cabinet's iso transformer has 2 ac in, and 2 ac out, whereas the schematic in the mvs-2-25 manual shows the 2 ac's and ground (a 3 wire connector) leaving the power supply and the shielded 2 wire ac going to the monitor.

My mvs power supply does have a 3 wire connector leaving for the iso transformer, but only two of the wires are hooking up, the two ac in's.

Does this matter you think?
 
Obviously you have a short somewhere :) Either that, or you could have ground leakage from something... the breaker that's blowing, is it a GFI breaker?

Time to get out your meter and start checking things. Follow the AC path through the game. Is this the kind of cabinet that takes a standard computer power cord plugged into the supply at the bottom (like a 4 slot Neo)? Or does it have an attached cord? A fairly common problem with games with attached cords is a damaged or frayed cord or plug.

Does this game have a fluorescent marquee light? Another common failure is a blown ballast in the light fixture, that'll blow fuses too.

Or, does this have those little EL panels like the 4-slot? Those are problematic and usually break, but I've never had one blow fuses... check it anyway.

If the fuse only blows when you turn the game on, then something inside is causing the fault - disconnect things and start checking them. If the fuse blows when the cabinet is plugged in, then it has to be something right in the main power wiring/cord.

It's the standard konami/neo geo power supply at bottom that takes a computer cord, which I have replaced. The power supply itself is suspect as it's rusted as hell. I did check the AC and DC outputs with my meter and all seemed correct though. I may try to replace it anyway as it's really ugly.

The EL panels were replaced with a fluorescent light. I haven't checked that yet, next on the agenda, as is double checking the wiring to the coin mechs and the test panel, and the fuse there.

Thanks! I'll keep checking. Got a new board coming in for this thing, so need to make sure the cab is alive and kicking.

If you disconnect all the power wires to the PSU--like the Montiro and Game board--and if you just power on the PSU--Do you still flip a switch (blow a fuse)?

No, by itself it's okay. I can power the Game board and that's it. If I add in the iso transformer for the monitor it'll blow. I didn't try it the other way (iso only and no game board). I ended up powering the monitor from my portable game tester (supergun-ish).
 
problem solved!

The idiot who had this thing previously had hacked up the wiring job from the power supply to the iso tranformer, going by wire color.

Only problem with that was that the wire colors didn't actually match up to reality. It had one of the ACs and Ground switched! LOL!

Fixed that, and now it turns on both the monitor and the board just fine!
