Just got my 161 game Neo Geo cartridge. Overall I would have to say I am pretty impressed. The games play perfect and the load times are small.

Now I would have been more impressed if the cartridge would have actually included the entire Neo Geo library instead of opting to include over 60 hacks of the various fighting games. The space spent on that junk would have actually allowed it to have all the Neo Geo games.

Oddly enough, while it has 45 versions of King of Fighters (impressive, since SNK only made 13) it missed King of Fighters 2000 an actual SNK release.

There doesn't seem to be any way to turn off individual games, which would have made this a much better product.

It comes with a nice instruction sticker for the game bezel with all the games listed and instructions on how to select games.

Yea it is missing some of the metal slug games as well. Want to say it is missing 5 and the version 6 on it is another hacked version of 3.

FYI if you have problems reset the memory on the neo geo. I've also had issues with the multi cart and a memory card.

Other issues deal with voltages that are off on the power supply and bad solder points in the cart. I had to re solder a few points on previous carts that I think were by the same company.

I have the 100 in 1 and have mixed feelings about it overall. I agree with all the various versions of crap, I never understood that. The cart played fine in my single slot, but gives me all kinds of hell in my 4-slot...go figure.

That's been a major turn off from these (besides being a nerd and liking to stick to 4 at a time in my machine). Last time I checked the MVS game list, these carts had enough slots to run every legit MVS release.

The thing is, how would they sell us on the next revision a year from now if I have a cart running every game I'd ever want on the system?

I have the 138in1 and overall it disappoints. Honestly, MAME is much better. My 2 wishes for a multi, every game and high score saves.

Could be the bootleg factory was/is still sitting on bootleg Metal Slug 5 carts and thus didn't want it on the cart.

How is Mame better. This is the real game data on the real hardware. Sure the menu could be better, but since I have normal Mame32/mameui inside my cabinet with no frontend I can't really be one to talk about that.

Fair enough, though I'd think they could just mark the one cart WAY up and still be able to sell them. There's so many flash carts out there for the consoles, is there not one for the Neo? Seems like that'd be something that'd sell very well...put an SD slot in it so you can load your own games, then we can play whatever damn games we want :)

I agree. I'm not trying to make excuses for them, just I am guessing that is the thought process behind filling a big chunk of the cart with hack shit.

I have the 120 in 1 and love it. Games play perfect. Way better than MAME any day.

My only wish: I want to be able to pick a default game that it loads to when the system is turned on instead of the menu.

Does it have a way to get back to the menu without rebooting the machine? If you hold the left player start button for a few seconds on the 120-in-1, it'll take you back.

Definitely would love to be able to turn off the hacks. And fix the horribly mangled titles.

I would lay down cash money for this. I was thinking the same thing. I had an AceKard for my NDS, and it was great — I just loaded up ROMs of all the cards I had and didn't have to worry about losing the originals.

You hold player 1 start for like 5 to 10 seconds and it will take you back to the menu.

How do these carts compare to the King of Game 188-in-1 jamma boards? Besides the fact that it does not have justl Neo Geo games on it. I thought about getting a 161-in-1 but I would be putting it in a 4-slot, which makes me worry because Mattroid is not the first person to say they give 4-slots problems. Plus the KOG 188s have some sweet non Neo Geo games on them.

The KOG board uses emulation. These carts run off the actual neo geo hardware. Both will have issues. Some of the games on the 161 in 1 may not have a proper rip of the real carts and have issues. Issue could come up as well if they used the wrong rip for some of the chips. Not sure which it is but you do see some errors in some of the games that were not on the original. Still it is a good setup.

Personally I'd say get a neo geo 1 slot or 2 slot board if your board has issues with the multi cart.

Biggest problem I have seen with the 161 in 1 is with resets. They seem to do fine if you let them run attract mode for the selected title for a while, but plenty of titles love to reset after a little while if you jump right into them after game selection.

A few titles seem to have funny colors.

A couple have weird sounds too. Most notably samurai showdown 2's intro right after the SNK logo is out of tune (really makes me cringe since I love that intro). I have had it reset on me a couple times, but its rare and inconsistent with specific titles. Multiple KOF games is silly, missing metal slug 5 and 6, no windjammers(!). Also the menu screen with terry will give your screen some nasty burn in if you leave it set on that for too long - a moving picture or screen saver of some sort would have been nice.

Other than that its great - games load instantly, no emulation so the games are virtually indistinguishable from real carts and while there are a lot of repeats, there's still a good number of games on the list to begin with. No high score saves, but the neogeo itself can't tell the diff between the bootleg carts and the real ones, so if you have dip settings saved for specific games and a working battery on your main board, it will be reflected on the bootleg cart as well. I'll likely be suckered into the next 1xx-in-1 whenever that comes out and look forward to playing "King of Fighters 2013 X Plus Metal Slug 10 Plus + Plus".
