I have a Jamma cab that i am trying to put a slot 1 board with a 150 in 1 cart.

Some strange things are happening...

First i added another wire to the jamma harness to pins A25 and B25 to get the 4th buttons working.

Then tried firing up the game... with a MV1 board. It booted and worked great.

I came back to work the next day and turned on the machine to find it with a video RAM error:

"Video ram error

Address write Read

000080000 5555 5500"

I also smelled some burning... I checked the PSU and all was with in spec, so i swapped it out with another known working MV1 and got the same damn video ram error and burning smell.

Well, obviously there is something wrong with this cab... So i pulled out a MV1B boad and hooked it up to my test rig with the 150 in 1 cart.

I can see the usual boot screen, then goes to black...

I am out of MV1 boards and only have these MV1B boards... Anyone know how can i get the 150 in 1 cart to work on the MV1B boards ?

Did some reading... Does this sound like a BIOS issue ?

Should i try burning and install the original BIOS or try a uni BIOS ?

I blew another MV1 board and it displays the exact video RAM error.

I just examined the psu and all the power ratings are within spec... However, its hissing at me, very loudly.

The picture was a bit choppy / twitchy on this cab.... what i though was a cap issue with the monitor.

I replaced the psu and the video cleared up... So im guessing the PSU was bad ?

strange... but now i have 2 non working MV1 boards ;-(

Did you check the 5v coming out of the PS to make sure it wasn't maxed out? There is usually a little adjustment knob to adjust the 5v

Bad power or power spikes will blow the video RAM at 8000. This is typically the RAM that blows when you have power issues.

They aren't hard to replace. The location of the RAMs depends on the board. I don't know if I have locations for that board listed in my repair logs though.

Thanks guys

I now have 2 blown MV1 boards... and 2 MV1B boards that my 150 in 1 carts dont work in.

I didnt try the 150 in 1 cart in the MV1B boards until i blew out the other MV1 boards...

Is it possible the 150 in 1 cart may have been damaged ?

Even if it is damaged it won't take out video RAM.

The only time a cart will damage something is if it has a shorted chip or capacitor. It's possible to damage a chip on the main board that is interfacing with the cart's shorted component but I've never seen that happen. What I have seen happen is power supply damage from a shorted part when the power supply didn't shut down because of the short.

I ended up replacing some of the video ram IC's to get these slot 1 boards working.

The 150 in 1 cart is still dead. I get nothing when trying to boot it. Anyway i can revive this ?

If the power supply was bad then it may have damaged the chips on the cart...

If cleaning the cart doesn't help then you'll have to try figuring out what chips were blown on it.
