I sold my Neo-Geo 4-slot a few months back... it was the "big red" style. It was cool to have but I got offered decent money and I could play the Neo games on my MAME ... so it wasn't a huge loss ... but boy did I miss being able to fire up to a game of Puzzle Bobble... er I mean Bust a Move...

:)

Anyway... this morning I notice a Neo 4-slot up local ...well ... semi-local... 48 miles from my place for a good price. Being that it was 48 miles away and having limited space it wasn't a "no brainer" ... but asking price was low enough that I just couldn't pass up. So I emailed.

Evidently I was the first who emailed. I picked it up after work this evening. It's a 4-slot type 2 cab I think they call it... not the big red... I actually dig this cab more frankly. It came with 3 games... and they all check out as authentic... including Metal Slug 5, Aero Fighters 2, and Bust A Move Again. The cab is in pretty damn good condition overall... the EL panels even somewhat light up (2 semi light up, one barely lights up and one doesn't light up at all except the edge)... ;)

EDIT: Oh yeah... strangely enough, the cab has HAPP 360 sticks installed??!?? They both work... huh? Is there a good reason to use Happ 360 sticks on a NEO?

These pics are before I've done anything at all to the cab...

I have one of those and I have thought of selling it a few times. Like you said, everything on there can be played on the MAME cab, so it really isn't necessary. I still like it though, and I don't think I will sell it.

When you have had a chance to play it for a bit, please let me know how you like the Happ 360s. I have a pair of Wico 360s that I have been thinking of putting in my Neo.

On second thought I do believe they are WICO 360 in there...

I'll let ya know.

FrizzleFried, your NEO cab is a 4 Slot Version 1 cab. (MVS-4-25 (ver. 1)). It has a 25" monitor and a MV-4F system board. And it's is a great cab to own.

The main difference between the Ver.1 cab and the Ver.2 cab is the the area below the coin door. SNK changed it up a bit on the Ver.2 cab. And the main difference between the Ver2. cab and the Ver.3 cab is the Mini-Marquee holder. Again, SNK changed it up a bit. Made it BIGGER!

Now, the SIX SLOT cab. has the distinction of being called the BIG RED.

On the BIG RED, SNK put a 29" monitor, a 6 Slot System Board, two 3x El Panel light boards, and an expanded control panel. And, just like the CAPCOM BIG BLUE, the cab. is BIG!

As far as NEO JOYSTICKS go, all my NEO CPs came with some kind of HAPP or IL ultimate/competition/super joysticks and buttons. None of my NEO CPs came with 360s. But, the 360s seem neat.

Hey, and if anyone is interested, I have an extra copy of BUST-A-MOVE that needs a home.

Very nice Neo Geo ! Looks alot like mine . Mine thought came with the factory karts that came with the machine . Later i had too buy the Karts yours came with .

Those games are hard too come by and some of the higher priced neo-geo games!

There's no true definition for a "Big Red". We basically refer to any of the full size dedicated red ones as a "Big Red".

Hell, I fix a LOT of Neo Geo boards and hadn't had a cab until just a couple of months ago. It's the 2 slot cab - came with a 1 slot board and a homemade marquee.

One marquee and a refurbished 2 slot board later, the cab is back to the way she should be... It's running League Bowling and one of the Metal Slug series for now.

You wouldn't think it, but the League Bowling is popular in the game room.

Congrats on your find. I think every game room should have a Neo Geo. Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble is a FUN game for it that people of all ages get easily addicted to. It's my next cart to pick up.

Price... here's the story.

It was listed on CL for $225.00. Based on the pictures and the description given (fully working), I brought my $225 with me expecting to just hand over the dough.

I get there and the cab looks fine... he fires her up and...

The monitor is some decent wave action going on at the right... it needs a cap kit.

I tell the guy "Dude... the monitor is going to need to be rebuilt... bummer... for you." (and we both smile). I explain to him about electrolytic capacitors and what would I need to to to repair it. I then tell him... "So, I came here with $225.00 just to hand over, but there is obviously a problem here... how open are you to offers?". Dude sorta looked around and at the ground... I say "I'll give you $175.".... dude then reminded me that he has 2 or 3 others that want to see the cab. I hold strong... "Yeah, but what are the chances those 2 or 3 will know how to fix this problem?"...

...he accepted.

$175.00 out the door. $20.00 in gas plus 2 hours of my time to get it.

Good deal.

Thanks for the clarification. I actually prefer the flat fronted cabs to the others frankly. That said, this 3-Koam cab has no rear hatch...stapled shut... I guess I get to pull the monitor from the front to rebuild her.

Frizz thats a great buy. Biggest gripe I have with my Big red is the size of the cab. You did good in switching from the larger to this size cab. I'd be willing to even go to the single slot gold cabinet and just switch out the carts. Is the CP the same width as the big red??

I'll go on a limb and say they are the same size (they appear to be). Yeah, the "tall" cab was a little intimidating... I also had a cracked marquee I couldn't for the life of me find a replacement for (under $80)... though I sort of did like the speaker position. I also liked the "flip up" front as well. It was a heavy bastard for sure though... this one seems a bit lighter but not much. It's about as stout as your average 25" cab... but I can see the top of it at least. :)

I think this time I will populate it with 4 games and leave it at that. No need to go with the xxx-in-1 carts... I think I'd rather consider this cab a "dedicated" cab running authentic carts... and only the 4... give me some time to actually PLAY each game...

I'm not sure what I'll put in #4 yet... I like the current mix but MS5 is one of the weaker MS... I'll probably look to swap that out eventually. We'll see.

The 'gold' cabs (woodgrain sides) are actually 2 slot, not 1. I've got one and I love it (though mine is beat and needs a good bit of bondo work). I have a few carts and I rotate through shooters in one slot and bust-a-move or Bust-a-move-again in the other.

It lacks the front panel mem card slot, but the board has the slot on it, so I just leave a card in it all the time.

Sounds similar to when I picked up mine. I got it for $150 with a dead monitor and 6 games. It's the V2 version though, which Is the one I like best. That will be one of the last games I will sell if it ever come to it, just because of it's versatility. Great game, it's like a big boy NES! (yes, I know the PC10 is closer, lol)

I've been through a ton of Neo Geo cabs. At one time I had a 6 slot wood cab, a 4 slot (tall version), and a 2 slot goldie.

Had a pair of the 13" red cabs (kind of regret selling the nicer one : ( ) Had a pair of Super Neo 29's, sold them. Sold a MVU 4. Sold a pair of Neo 19's then bought one back.

Currently have 5 japanese Neo candies.

Also, tyranix95 is incorrect regarding the 6 slot. The monitor WAS NOT a 29", was infact a 25" like all the others. If you get a 6 slot lined up next to a 4 slot of the same style. Everything is at the exact same height and depth, the 6 slot is basically like the 4 if it got stretched out width wise a few more inches. The monitor opening is the same height on both cabs, you would be unable to fit a 29" CRT in there. The 6 just has a fatter bezel surrounding the tube, nothing more.
