I have been looking for a Neo-Geo cabinet for some time now, along with a JAMMA cabinet. Well I recently learned that the Neo Candy Cabs are JAMMA and MVS compatible, though there are some issues with the stereo/mono sound.

Does anyone have one of these? I am pretty dedicated to the idea of getting a Neo Candy, so I don't think the SEGA series of Candy Cab's is for me.

And, before you say something, yes I did post this in the Neo-Geo forums, but this forum is much faster in getting replies, and I am impatient.

just get a candy you like, who cares if it's sega wired or neo, that's easy enough to change.

well the whole point is to be able to play JAMMA and MVS. Any suggestions? I am always open to them, please feel free to share. The only thing is with the Sega New Astro City is that apparently the power supply is in an awkward place and may have trouble fitting a larger JAMMA board, such as an MVS board, or a multi-game board.

Please, if anyone has any suggestions, or a tutorial as to what I need to do I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT! Thanks.

bump! have a chance to buy an Astro city, anyone have good experience with it in terms of JAMMA/MVS compatibility?

I just bought a "Neo 29" which is a 4-slot Neo Geo Candy cab with MVS wiring. Then to play jamma boards, I bought one of these:

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-to-neogeo-adapter/prod_228.html

So my advice to you is to pick up a Neo Geo Candy Cab and one of those adapters, and then you too will be all set for both jamma and Neo Geo games... :)

EDIT- Oh, and you also have to connect the -5v on the power supply to the wiring harness (since many jamma games require it), but it's really easy to do.

Now how do I do that last part? Any diagrams or anything? I will save it to my computer. Still don't know what Candy I will end up with, but it's always good to have the information available just in case.

and thanks for the advice, I greatly appreciate it!!

I'd advise getting a sega astrocity with a neo style 4 button cp. Then slap a mvs-1 slot in it. No jamma compatibility issues that way. Then you can play all the jamma and non-jamma games via jamma adapters.

Problem is, I mainly play fighting games, so I will need a 6 button set up, are the Sega Astro Cities easily modded into 6 button?

most astros come with 6 button streetfighter cps. Thought ya wanted the neo, so if you went with that style, it would be tough to play the neo fighters. I've seen people go with 7 button cps to allow for both neo and streetfighter games but it looks kinda funky.

Yeah I love the Neo fighters, but love Street Fighter too, just looking for a way to combine the two. the 7 buttons do like kinda weird, but if it felt comfortable when I played both types of fighting games I could live with it. I just wonder what would be easier, turing a Astro into 7 buttons, or a Neo.

There's a tutorial for adding a -5v line here:

http://www.hardmvs.com/html/neg5volt.htm

Once you're set up with this and the Jamma to MVS adaptor, you can play pretty much anything in a Neo Geo cab...

I got a candy! A Neo MVS-U4/29. Just waiting on a mobo to come in the mail. There is also a built in harness to switch between stereo and mono that the guy selling it built in, now I just need to make the -5v adjustments to make sure I can play certain PCB's. pics soon!
