It's been a while since I posted a resto thread so here's a story about a 4 slot Neo cab I scooped while back. It was in decent shape but suffered from the typical soft edges and peeling laminate. The cab did have a working K7000, 4 slot pcb (with sound issues) and a handful of carts. The EL panels are not working either :( However I do have a line a the replacement panels.

Since the edges were rotton, I decided to strip the cab of it's contents and remove the T-molding. I usually put all my projects on those large Harbor Freight furniture dolly's while the work is in progress.

I removed the old gnarly leg levelers and replaced with new before I started any edge work. I figured this will help to help protect anything I repaired as I moved the cabinet around after body filler is added. I admire the on/off switch install.

Finally I measured up the art work for restoration. It's about to be covered.

Since the cabinet was striped I took the control apart, removed the sticks, buttons and memory card reader. I found either a repro or nos overlay on the Fee-Bay that lined up perfectly.

Next I took the old cruddy panel out to the media blast cab and gave it a good old shot of silica.

Came out ready for the powder coating.

Back from the powder coating, I test fit the panel again and I removed the protective plastic. Ready for re-assembly.

Next was onto the body filler. Since I knew that I was going to Laminate the entire cabinet, I didn't' have to go nuts and fill every minor imperfection. I just wanted to make sure the edge was straight and the was nothing that was going to cause the molding not to fit. I laid the cab on it's side on top of a remnant to keep it from ruining my garage floor :).

After sanding was complete I used counter top adhesive and applied it to both sides of the material, let it sit for a few then stuck them together. I the used my router with a laminate flush cut bit to trim the excess off.

Once all the red was cut, I moved on to the lower section in flat black.

After cutting the hole and attaching the black laminate a new in box Happ coin door was installed.

I then applied the "player" decals and attached the control panel and overlay.

Next I populated the control with some "new-er" buttons and sticks!

Next while I still had the pcb out, I replaced the capacitors in the sound section and cleaned all the volume sliders. A quick test and all sound is restored.

The final step was to install the pcb and apply the side art.

Now, there are a few things I still need to address such as the memory card reader decal, which is done and needs to be printed.

As well as the EL panels. None are working and the pcb that controls them is buried behind the the speaker panel (which is glued and screwed). I will save these issues for a future project!

Very nice restore. Love that tall version of the 4-slot. At the time I hated it because I couldn't put my Big Gulp up there.

I saw some EL panels for sale in the allelectronics catalog. $1 but they're kind of small (2.8" x 2.2").
