So far I've rebuilt the power brick (Big Blue, fuses, fuse block, and bridge rectifier). I installed the rebuild kit for the AR/II board just last night. My voltages are pretty much perfect all around, as far as my knowledge goes. Problem is, I still have solidly lit player buttons. When I put it into test mode, after a brief pause, the speakers play a constant solid tone. At that point if you press any of the other buttons, they each play a slightly unique note. Unless someone can tell me, I don't think it is part of the system test.

Today I removed all the chips and cleaned the legs with an eraser, then reseated. Still no joy.

The monitor is pretty much toast right now. I can see a few wires that have been munched on by rats. And the TO-3 transistors look pretty bad, phsically. I plan on doing the rebuild on that as well, but my hope was to actually have the game playing blind by now.

Any thoughts?

I would be sure the power to the 6100 was disconnected (do this at the monitor). Do you have access to a known working SD pcb? If not, sounds like you have an SD pcb problem. My SD was doing a similar thing - P1/P2 lights on solid but no sounds. Turned out it had an issue. I know other boards boards like Gravitar can be used as well. Pinouts are a bit different for controls/etc and some of the AR II are not compatible with all games. My SD pcb was tested in a Gravitar. This link shows which AR II's work with which games. They also do repairs/parts.

The Space Duel self test procedure is described on pages 1-8 and 1-9 of the manual, and again starting on page 2-2. The tones are part of the RAM check.

If your monitor is questionable, make sure you unplug the big molex connector going to it.

Make sure that the slam switch (either on back of coin door, or inside of cabinet next to coin door) isn't bent closed.

If you haven't already downloaded the manual, you can find it at

Alright, in the manual there was a small note, saying that if you hear a constant low tone, that it is one or both of the roms at 8209/107 and 8207/106.

Can someone here tell me what the x y and z outs should be?
Mine are:
X -84.0 to -86.1
Y 94.0 to 95.0
Z 1.175

Guess I'll replace the TL082CPs. That was the fix for my Asteroids. Can I use the G05 from the Asteroids to test the Space Duel?

Try switching out the AVG chip on the SD. They are a common point of failure and depending on what it's doing, it can cause the processor to lock up.

Verify your roms in both the main and vg section of the board. If you have a way of testing the address and data lines in/out through the various buffers, I highly recommend that as well.
