So I recently picked up a MK4 and noticed the picture towards the bottom of the screen is a bit scrunched up. I am wondering if anyone knows off hand what pot would be a good start for something like this.

Need to know what kind of monitor you are using, the pic above doesn't share that info :)

If you are not sure, snap some clear pics of the monitor PCB, and we can help guide you further.

Sorry about that, just snapped a quick shot on my lunch hour. I still have to drill out the lock on the rear of the machine to get the info. Will update soon

yup a hantarex polo 25inch. i have never had one that didn't need almost half the chassis reflowed with components almost falling out of the pcb.

BTW: that chassis has a pincushion pot and they usually need caps too if original which i have the kits.

or depending on monitor model the linearity pot.

Oh crap. this is what i meant and not the pincushion

you will probably have to adjust your vertical size smaller along with adjusting the linearity.

Where would be a good place that i can get a knob for the pot?

the pot should have a screwdriver slot in it which you can use a non-conductive screw driver (a plastic flat blade)

plus you wouldn't want to be sticking your hand into the belly of the beast while is powered up to adjust it by a knob.

shit, I've been using regular screwdrivers on those for years. ;)

I need one of those plastic tools again.

this adjustment is also incredibly difficult to do unless you have a mirror that shows the whole screen or you have someone who actually possesses the skill to balance the top and the bottom.

basically if you go one extreme or the other with that adjustment you'll have a very stretched side and a very squished one. you have to find the middle ground.

Okay so I originally found time to monkey with it ( got caught up with my MK2 restore) but the results of changing the verticle linearity has resulted in no change, unfortunately.

have you capped this monitor??? if not i would do that is your adjustment has no affect and assuming your pot tests good then cap it and adjust.
