I just got one of these on eBay and I need to know a few things about it. First off what kind of power adapted does it need? The one I got comes with nothing but the programmer. So if someone has a copy of the software and maybe a PDF of the manual it would be greatly appreciated.

Adapter is 12 VAC (see pic) [ NOT a DC adapter ! ]

I've got a PDF file for the manual.

PM me your e-mail address and I'll mail it to you.

BTW, what module did you get with the programmer ?
You need 1A/1B for virtually all arcade eproms,
otherwise you won't be able to do much with it...

Nice pick-up ...
I use mine Daily...

cheers,

was wondering who i was bidding against

thankfully i gave up, otherwise that would have been even more expensive had i won

Nah didn't bid, was that one that was for sale for $99 or best offer so I made him an offer. Yeah looking at the eBay pic its a 01A/01B module thank god LOL. Had me worried there for a min.

Man that 12vac 3000ma or 3A is a tough one to find I have been finding lots of 1000ma and 1500ma power adapters.

I run the software under DOS. Was never able to get it to work in window mode under XP.

That's another bridge I will cross when I come to it. I have an old lap top that I'm going to test out that has a serial cable connector on the back of it. It's an old gateway computer I just need to get a power adapter for it and see if the battery will take a charge. Its a gateway Solo 2500 It should work. I'm more worried what might be on it I found it stuffed in the back of a closet when people moved out of one of our apartments LOL.

The Emp-20 uses a parallel port
with a "centronix" type cable
(...standard parallel printer cable from the 90's )

It's actually simpler than then setting all those serial baud rate parameters...

Actually I think It has both there where a lot of large cable connectors on the back of the thing. I guess I should have also looked up Serial port because It wasn't the same as I thought.

Also thanks for the link to the power adapter. I wasn't getting very far with ebay searching for one.

I was doing some more research and found a found a few people mention that you can also use a 15VDC 3A power supply for this burner. Anyone ever try this? They seem to be a whole hell of a lot cheaper than the 12vac 3a power supplies and more common.

Any updates on this? Or did you end up buying the M-Audio adapter? Just curious, I stumbled on an adapter-less EMP-20 in the trash bin at work today (we used to use these exclusively for programming, replaced these days by Dediprogs and serial ROMs).

Also, has anyone tried the EMP series with a USB parallel port?

I use an old Win98 box for mine. I had several modules but seem to have misplaced most of them. Luckily, the most common module was in the machine!

I believe I found the one I needed on eBay it was a Boston Acoustics 12VAC 3000ma power supply Model DM1203A0-1AN. The Laptop I hooked it up to was one I found abandoned in one of my apartment units. It just so happens to have the exact port on the back for the ROM burner hookup. It was a Gateway Solo model 2500 it's great for just the burner and portable if I needed it to be.

I see one of those adapters on eBay now, but it's $62 - yikes! I'll dig around the lab at work and see if I can scrounge an original up. On a side note, I did find an archive of the old Needham site, and it claims the supply requirements are " 12-16 Volts @ 2.5 Amp, AC or DC".

I'm guessing a USB LPT port wouldn't work correctly (unless it emulated the legacy LPT resources that the software is expecting), but would be interested to know if anyone has tried it.

If it will use DC, you can get a 12VDC supply easier. Hell, connect it up to a spare PC power supply that can support 3Amps on the 12V line. I would order the one from M-Audio that I linked if I was in need. It looks pretty. :)

Yeah I know I didn't pay near that much for it maybe half that. I'm fairly sure these have to be VDC power supplied not DC. I think it took me like a month or 2 before I found one at a price I was willing to pay.

Here's a 12vac 2000ma for $25 not sure if the ma rating is high enough or not.
