I bought a needhams emp-20 a while back and for some reason I can't get it to program the eprom. Im using windows XP and installed the special software to use it with XP im running the program in full screen mode and the the port listed in the program matches what listed in the bios on the computer. I can get it to confirm the eprom is blank and read an already programmed chip but when i try to burn the chip it goes through the motions of programming and says its done but when I check it still comes up being blank.
I am new to eprom programming and im not sure if I missed a step or something. Thanks!

does the computer you are using have a parallel port that was manufactured on the motherboard ?
or did you add on a parallel port using an aftermarket one ?

if you added on a parallel port, there is a hertz or a sync problem i think its called with the motherboards and aftermarket parallel ports

if thats the case, you can pick up an el-cheapo computer for 60 bucks and dedicate that for your burner

I installed windows 98 and got family module errors and it couldn't find the programmer so I changed the port settings to bi directional and now its working. I think the biggest problem was not knowing what I was doing altogether.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Most of the New computer tech I a have run across don't have a clue about the old printer ports. I am glad you got it working. I assume you change the setting in the bios in order for it to go bidirectional.
