Anyone have a copy of this software that will work on WinXP? A friend has this programmer and can't use it on his XP PC and his old PC died. He has gotten alot of dead ends w/ his search.

Thanks,
Robert

No software for the emp 10 for xp exists. Best to run it on a dos machine.

The software is available here:

But there is no Windows software for that programmer. It lists a Windows driver, but I'm not sure what that's for - perhaps to allow the DOS based software to work in from within Windows? I don't know.

You're MUCH better off just using the programmer from DOS though.

Too bad older PC's are SOOOO hard to find... :D

I use the software under DOS and Win98SE. Only reason I do the 98 thing is because that computer doesn't have a floppy or CDROM so I just use a network connection to transfer everything I need to it. I've burned quite a few ROMs under 98 and have never had a problem.

Use the software under DOS. There is an XP version but it doesn't work and it still runs in a DOS window.

Download the latest version using the Wayback machine and make yourself a DOS boot disk on a floppy. The EMP10 works great, I love mine, and it is very happy in DOS.

I remember reading about this - the Needham will run under a dos window in xp but the software is processor speed sensitive (the processor can't be too fast). I have a needham and run it on an old toshiba monochrome laptop under a very stripped down windows 95 in a dos window. Amazing how fast windows is when you get rid of all of the OS junk. My mainstay programmer is still my trusty old Data I/O - you can program anything you need for the classics with it. My best advice is if you are going to be tinkering with older arcade games and older test equipment that you make yourself a lab computer with an ISA backplane with a floppy disk drive. Also have an old slow laptop with early windows and dos loaded. People will give you these machines as they are all sitting in closets gathering dust. The laptop batteries will not work but who cares - you will have it plugged into the wall.

I have an EMP-20 running fine in XP. It uses a driver of sorts. I can dig it up if you want. I think it should work for the EMP-10.

Thanks. Is there a 98 or 2K version? Or do they all run in some form of DOS?

Robert

This software is for letting you run the "DOS" software in a Windows NT environment. It should work on NT4, 2000 and XP. It may work on 32 bit version of Vista and 7 but I haven't tested it. Windows 98 should be able to run the "DOS" software without any issues so you don't need the driver I posted for that.

the emp20 runs under windows xp. the emp 10 does not. No way around it that i've ever found and I even asked the needhams guys when there were open.
