Still looking for someone to help me with this. I will pay of course.

I am tired of looking at my Omega Race cabinet sitting in the corner. I need to find someone who is willing to repair the main PCB. It is suffering from battery acid damage but it is not nearly as bad as most of the boards I see pictures of online. Unfortunately I have neither the time nor the skills to fix it myself. I started on it at one time but stopped when I started having problems removing the old solder.

So if you can help me or know someone who can, please contact me.

Here's a guide to repair, and why most people don't fix these boards.

Step one, look at the damage and wonder why someone didn't pull the battery sooner, and why they would mount it on the board in the first place.

Now go through and remove all damaged parts. It may not look to bad, but you need to check those traces underneath parts too.

All parts removed, now it's time to clean up what's left of the traces.

As you can see there are chunks missing from traces, mostly where the edge of the chip sits, and around the pads where the corrosive was trapped.
So after 12 hours the board has been stripped, cleaned, and about 1/2 of the parts removed have been replaced. Row 2 of this board has taken the brunt of the damage, and will require adding blue wire to complete the traces.

More to come.

Now we get into the second row, which has 3 ram chips, and those traces require a tighter fit.

This board set will be forsale once finished, would consider a partial trade for your dead OR boardset.

How much time have you logged on this boardset so far?

No offense, but I wouldn't touch that board with a 10 foot pole, working or not :)

I don't think anyone would want to buy my shotgun centipede board either, but it was a fun repair to do... heh.

I've got to say, with the plethora of dead Omega Race boards available out there, why would you start with one SO far gone. Forgive me if they all seem that far gone, but in my travels I've found ones that were not terribly bad. Still dead, but not completely soaked with acid.

Anyway, I also would REALLY like to find someone who would fix some Omega Race boards for me too. I will happily pay handsomely for the work. I need an Omega Race in my museum, and have plenty of dead cabinets / boardsets to choose from. I have several boards that aren't badly acid damaged, but still dead.

Anyone out there who can fix these and actually wants to?

Thanks...

John

That's a stupendous feat of repair work, Talon -- yikes!

In the same boat as John. My board is not even in the same universe in terms of acid damage, but is still dead. I will post some pics soon.

Took me 15 hours from start to finish to get it running again.

You work with what you have. Bottom line is it works just fine when done.

Seems more and more people just toss things they think are to far gone, and there's really no reason to, most things can be repaired. I just spent a little time here and there.

I figured there would be people to repair these. Other than the schematics sucking and some odd ways of addressing chips there's not much to these. Unless you have to deal with the acid damage.

Talon is the Omega Race repair guru. lol BTW I still need to work out the detils for getting my board repaired.

Thats pretty cool work. I don't have the time (or the knowledge) - but it would be neat (to me) to do it.

Keep up the good work!

Thats pretty insane, now you have a $2000 pcb after you factor in labor and parts :)
I media blasted a defender cpu that was in similar condition and it saved ALOT of work. I have a few professor pac boards that are going to need the same treatment but dont know if I will ever feel motivated enough to do it. Good job, you obviously enjoy a challenge.

Still looking...

Been away for a while but I am still looking for someone to help me with this. I will pay of course.

I thought the Galaga boards were a challenge. If you can't find anyone else to do this I may try my hand at it.

I will at least want to see what you got before I make any decisions so I will need a pic of the damage.
