need some suggestions on what to do about this backglass....

....or lack thereof for my zip-a-doo pin.

i'd love to find a high-res scan of the backglass...figure i could get it printed out, throw it behind a piece of glass or plexi, cut out the appropriate holes, and be done with it.

but i haven't been able to find anything yet.

this is what it's supposed to look like:

i'd even take a generic backglass picture of some sort (pin-themed) if the holes were in the right spots.

any suggestions? i've about got it working now and i'd like to move on to attempting to at least make it look presentable.

thanks fellas.

had the same problem with one of my WHO DUNNITS
6 months looking for one on ebay, to no avail

finally dawned on me to take the translight of the other one to a local photographer and he took a high res photo of it, did some magic and the end product cost me 140 bucks

looks fantastic. way better than nothing

so i guess my advice is to borrow one and copy it

There is/was a guy selling a Zip a Doo on Mr Pinball. Check with him to see if he still has it and if he would scan it for you. At the very least maybe he could take a hi-res picture and send it to you for you to make a trans-light.

found this pic online....highest res i've seen. i know it wouldn't be a perfect solution, or even a good long-term solution, but do you guys think this pic would be good enough to have kinko's or somebody blow up/print for me?

i'd be willing to spend a few bucks to have a temporary fix just so i don't have to look at those damn lights anymore. :)

Kinko's probably wont print that for you due to copyright blah blah. although they might if you get someone who doesnt know/new
good luck with that. i ALMOST had them do mine for me but at the last second the worker went to ask someone and it was all over

the picture seems a bit too oblong to blow up for all the windows be in the right places

email the guy and ask him to take a picture straight on

i didn't think about kinko's not printing things for copyright reasons. how else can i get that pic (or anything similar) blown up and printed.

I would go to a local print shop. Most of them will do it. I was a printer for 16 years, never once gave a shit about copyright. The exception being quantity. A few is fine, a few thousand was a different story.

The Mr. Pinball owner registry lists a half a dozen guys who have this title in their collection. You might try emailing them to see if any of them either have or could take a better pic of the backglass for you than the one on MrHide's website. Brian Saunders would probably be your best bet, but he's out of pocket until after the Allentown show.

Once you have a decent scan at your disposal, Gary Conway could print you a translite. Google RGP for his contact info. I'd still give Kinko's or your local print/sign shop first, though.

So the challenge with getting that printed is that it needs a lot of work to correct the aspect ratio and out of focus elements on things like "1 or 2 can play", correct the chipped paint and vectorize it into an Adobe Illustrator file with accurate dimensions so that everything lines up and you can get a high quality translite out of it.

I've got a talented Graphic Artist here that does some amazing work that can do it for about $200. You can then have a professional translite printed at Game On Grafix for $50. http://www.gameongrafix.com/categories/customer-designed

An original glass, if found, could be had cheaper than that. Not to slam your offer, but thats coupled with whatever he's already spent on the machine, would likely be more than the entire thing is even worth.

Would you like me to put feelers out amongst local collectors for a BG pudluther? There are a couple guys I've dealt with that have absolutely silly stashes of parts they'll never use.

I completely agree with you. Finding a original glass would be my first approach as well. If you can't find it then creating a reproduction is about the only option. It takes a significant amount of effort to do that and for it to be perfect. It doesn't just have to have the right outside dimensions, the registration locations have to be perfect for the scoring windows to be in the right places too as well has being in a vector format or very high resolution TIFF/JPEG for it to look right when printed out full size.

i appreciate the offer, blair.

i really don't give a crap about the "chipped paint" though. LOL. might give it an authentic look. ;)

the aspect ratio though, obviously needs to be addressed.

if i could get out for $100-125 or so i'd be happy.....anything more and we're wandering into territory where it's more than i paid for the pin. hahahaha!!!

i do appreciate all the suggestions though, fellas.....thanks a lot!!!

I understand the issue of cost! Besides the aspect ratio, don't forget that you also have to make sure the registration positions of the score windows end up in the right spot as well.

You might contact the Game On Grafix guys as they do custom artwork and can give you a quote for what you need...or maybe a close alternative.
