Marvel vs Capcom = CPSII

You can drop any other USA (Blue) CPSII game in... plug n play. There is an A board (bottom with the fan) and a B board (the top blue part)... the come apart and others can be swapped in.

WARNING: All CPSII games (well, most) have a suicide battery. You MUST replace this battery or face losing the game.

Capcom Play System II

You can find out how to change out the battery here:

http://cps2shock.emu-france.info/

It's very easy to do... two solder joints... takes all of about 10 minutes tops.

The alternative is to send the board in to be "PHOENIXED"... basically they re-burn a few ROM's that no longer require the "code" that the original ROMS need to run... the battery keeps the chip with the "code" powered up... lose the battery, lose the code... lose the code... game no work.

Citristrip. Just used it on a painted MKII and it came out amazing.

citristip here as well, picked it up at a williams hardware, think home depot or lowes should have it. works freaking wonders

got mine from home depot. also, get the gel, not the spray. the small container was around $11 and could probably do 3 cabs. it says to leave it on for at least 30 minutes but I did 15 minutes and it worked great.

I've owned a lot of those CPSII boards. I've had a few die.

There should be metal clips on each side of the B blue board that helps keep it attached to the A board. Sometimes the boards don't connect properly so you might have to re-seat them.

There might be a sticker on the board that indicates the date when the battery was last replaced. That's how people kept track of how old the battery was.

If it wasn't changed recently, or there is nothing to indicate when it was last changed, make it a priority to get the battery replaced ASAP.

Phoenixing the board is an option but as I recall it was not all that cheap, especially since I believe the only person doing this these days is overseas.

CPSII is fully Jamma, so if you want to swap in any Jamma boards you can do that also.

There are at least two CPSII games that have a slightly different pinout on the kick harness. Both Dungeons and Dragons games use the same connector but wire it differently due to their being four player games. In fact, the D&D games are actually wired differently from one another further complicating things.
