need some MAME info and ideas

Can you play Gauntlet Legends without any slowdown? I still get a little slowdown on that one with a 4GHz C2D. Most games are playable at full speed with this processor though.

BYOAC will have pretty much any information you will ever need. A lot of the frontend developers are active over there as well.

the gauntlet legends and dark legacy are not fully emulated they will nt pay perfect on any cpu
the model 2 games are anoter set that are not emulated corectly in mame (getting close tho )
but with game ex there is an option to launch the model 2 games with the model 2 emulaotr and then they will play fine (it launches the games from the main mame game list you just turn on a settin in the config and then point game ex to your model 2 exe)

i use game ex as a front end it is way more easy to setup than all the others and will automaticly create lists for you (horz,vert,neo-go,capcom,classics,original and several others)
just install it and then point it to your mame dir and rom dir thats it
it also has a sweet built in juke box/movie player that plays anyformat as long as you install ffdshow also

on their site they also have a instant sheller app that will automaticly shell windows so that your pc will boot directly into a front end withhout any signs of windws at all
this can be used with any .exe file can even boot directly into regualr pc games
using the shelller also ends many unmneeded windows processes that eat up system page file and in turn will speed up mame on any pc

i think game ex is far better than any of the other front ends for its easy to configure menus and no hasse instlations others like hyperspin and mala take quite some time to setup custom lists and also will not display every game (hyperspin really sucks i cnat stand the wheel they use to list games it looks pretty tho )
think of it like xp vs vista vista is flassy and pretty but is a big pia (like mala and hyperspin) xp is stable works well and is easy to use (like game ex )

Ill have to test that one out. Not even sure ive seen that one in the list just yet. What kind of GPU are you running and motherboard? ram? Just for comparison.

Looks like the C2D's dominate like hell with overclocks. Right up my ally too! I think im gonna build the same rig I got now hopefully alot cheeper than it ran me 2 years ago. I had no idea I was right around the specs I need to run MAME pretty much flawlessly. Might pick up a pair of better C2D's one to upgrade my gaming rig and one for MAME. I also dont seem to have gauntlet legends. I have gauntlet and gauntlet 2 if someone feels like sending me that rom or chd I would be much obliged.

I'm late in this thread but here's some info.

I have a pentium 3 mame cabinet in my living room and the Menu I have running is ULTRASTYLE which I think is the best.
I have no slowdowns on MK 1 or 2 , nor the streetfigter or KOF series.

A mame cab is Ideal for the living room.

i got my full set on demonioid some time ago it was like 124 or somthing i think they stil have it there (gotta get invited or be lucky and wate for open reg +you have to seed like at pleasuredome) try the pirate bay also (since you are a leecher lol)

i use that site i posted above to keep my sets up to date and realy it wont take that long to dl all the games from there think it took me like a week (and i only downnloaded games while i was watching a movie or dicking around on the net)to udate my set and i had to downlaod almost every ame and several of the chd's

thier search engine is reall good and they also have the artwork needed for your frontend for each game (title screen,flyer,cab pic,bezl,marquee)listed right with each game download

well my problem is i can dl like mad and get a 100gb file in almost a day but my upload totally sucks so to avoid getting on pleasuredomes shitlist I would have to seed for 2 weeks to make that up, it just fuckin sucks. I have no problem sharing but when I have to limp along with my gaming rig and for some reason torrents bog my shit down after a long period of time I have no clue why. Maybe bittornado has a mem leak somewhere who knows.

I may have to because 2 of my torrents i finished and the damn thing sits idle for hours and doesnt upload for shit. I wanna give back a little of what I snagged but damn this. lol SHame I cant find anything in packet form or via mirc, that would rock!

Finally got my rig together but im having issues with getting aclear resolution to the arcade monitor. Like its out of sync. A regular game board works fine so using the 8800gtx with a jpac and im kind of lost at this point. Any thoughts?

buy a card called "arcade vga" graphics card, mame doesnt use barely any power from a graphics card, it mainly uses raw cpu power, also to set up a front end use mamewah and find the wiki for it, it will tell you step by step how to install the front end and such

I would if I didnt already have a good GPU that I already have lying around, besides im not even sure if arcadevga cards are compatible with pci-e slots which is another limitation with my build. Eventually I wanna do more than MAME as well but thats at a future date.

Im sure its just a software or something simple deal because thats just a rebadged ati card probably flashed with a different firmware. I just dont see spending more for another card when mine should do the same if not better. Im looking for a solution to the problem I have now, not buying another card atm. Ive read somewhere it can be done and im getting a clear picture just have to clear up the split screen issue and im good. That tells me the card works and can handle the task just needs some tweaking that im not familiar with yet. Figured someone might have ran into this with another card or with the same as mine.

Glad you're still keeping up the same pattern of:

1: asking for advice
2: completely ignoring said advice because you know better

If you would learn how to use Google, you would already know that soft15khz and AVGA are pretty much your only two options, and soft15khz probably won't work for your card.
