need PC-10 free play with working reset button BIOS

the entire time I've had my PC-10 I only ever used the service credit switch to add time, so I was never aware that you could run free play. but the other thing is if you do run free play, the reset button doesn't work.

I know someone with a PC-10 with free play and a working reset button, but he's the kind of fellow that won't let you open a game unless it's dead, so I was wondering if there's a BIOS floating around that allows this. and if it's not a BIOS, how do you run the wires to fix this?

I don't need hack game capability, stock carts are fine. I just don't want people getting confused that you use Channel Select and Enter to reset.

thank you

hmm... I think I have a copy of something that gives the PC10 freeplay and all the buttons still worked if I recall right. PM me your email address and I'll send it tomorrow.

Also, if I recall right, the countdown timer was blank when using this freeplay ROM.

I read the dipswitch settings in the manual and saw nothing about free play, but when I put the stock BIOS back in the machine it had free play still. maybe I'm wrong though cause I remember the credit display coming back on.

there was also something screwy with the wiring on the control panel too though.

the free play settings are in the manual. the factory bios allows for free play. many of us use it, and don't have to use the 1.1 modded bios. you wouldnt want to lose your instruction screens and ect........
the timer will show 9999 though.

it seems there are a few revisions of the factory bios and you must have an early revision.

match these dip setting and let me know what happens.

I had to install the modified bios... oh wait... I wanted Free play WITH attract.... Thats why I used it. But, I recall the instructions screens all still being there.

Huh, no kidding. Guess I was too busy playing games and not paying attention. :)
Guess thats your choice. I like things working correctly and having the instructions.

Heres a pic of my countertop. Running factory bios on freeplay. With the reset button functioning.

Ive just never liked how 1.1 looks..... No offense to the creator as it has proven very helpful to alot of people.

I wonder if the "stock" BIOS I have really isn't.
If you are using a switch to add time to a timer it's definitely stock....... But stock has a few revisions.... So like i said maybe you have an early revision.

If you had 1.1 bios, the timer wouldn't function at all and you wouldn't have been able to use the timer..... And mario would be on the title screen.....

I have two PC10s (both dual monitor). Both are on free play and reset works. As far as I know these are factory BIOS. I purchased these from an op that had them on routes for years, I changed dips to free play.

I have been using my PC10 the same way just adding credits I thought I read somewhere early on when I got mine that you needed that bios change to get free play and just never came back around to it.

I just tried these dip settings and it works. Got the 9999 but my Reset button isn't working. I can hit the Enter button and get the Instructions but I can't get back to the game select screen seems I'm just stuck in the game. Are there different settings for different versions? Where would I look to find out what version i have also?

Hitting channel select and enter will return you to the main menu..... Any chance you have a eprom burner and can burn a newer version factory bios? So far we have gathered there is atleast 3, and the first definitely doesnt let the reset button work.
I can also burn you an eprom if you want to try. I had a gentleman last week with the same issue and the most recent factory bios revision fixed it. I'd really like to see if it fixes the issues for anyone with it, so we know forsure that it is definitely the answer.

Yeah ok, channel select and enter worked to get me back to the main menu.
No eprom burner yet I want to buy one but haven't done enough research yet on what to buy.
I would buy a new set of eproms from you if you think that would get the reset button to work that would be awesome to finally be able to stop hitting the credits and still being able to use the reset and have the Instructions.

I got your new Bios chip and your Game Link. They came as I was about to load up the kids to go to a Bday party, Guess what they can wait while I test out my new parts [emoji3]

Everything worked like you said the new bios fixed the reset button while in free play. This alone is awesome I've had my PC10 almost a year and now I can stop hitting the credits for time.

The Game Link worked perfectly also, I grabbed Mega Man 2 and tossed it in there and we where in business. Didn't get to swap games on the Game Link as i had to go with the kids.

Now I have to figure out what's up with my 20ez monitor, it's dark along the left side I'm sure it could use a full rebuild, I haven't done one of these yet but now you have forced me to try and fix it so I can have years more fun on it.

Thanks!

Great to hear the updated factory bios worked.... You must have had an older version..... So this should fix most people's reset button issue then.

Sounds like a cap kit is a good place to start on the monitor issues.

haven't tackled this yet. I've had local help offer assistance, just been busy with other projects. the PC-10 is one of like 120 other games I have to deal with. :p
