Need opinion on a potential purchase

Yeah, I checked out that Ed Cheung guy's website and didn't see any place where he's actually selling anything. Haven't looked into these repro playfields..got a link? I'm at work and only have sporadic moments where I can do anything right ATM...and mostly then only on my phone, lol.

*Edit* found the site but no place to get on a list looks like and no pricing info. Apprently this one is high demand, lol. =|

You can e-mail Ed and he'll fix you up with one. Here's my previous post regarding the one I ordered. It was $205 shipped, not exactly cheap but less than ordering a repro playfield. Ed did the artwork for the playfield and overlay.

You can never get in on a CPR pre-order near production, all the greedy bastards who have no intention of ever owning the machine in question buy 2-3 PFs to sell them for even more later on...

Yeah, you might be able to get a second. Sometimes the defects are nominal, but the price is still way more than an overlay.

Motherf......

Called the lady today. Got voicemail. Left a message. She texts me back, which costs me money, and asks if I called. She tells me that someone is supposed to be picking it up tonight but ts mine if they flake. I lost it, like seeing red lost it. This lady was lucky it's a text message. :/ I sent her back a very terse response along the lines of " wtf are you selling it to someone else when I contacted you days ago?!?!"

So we seem to have worked out a definite time for me to pick this up but I don't trust this deal at this point. I'm getting a hitch installed on my Highlander tomorrow morning so I can just rent a cheapy trailer for this and in the future to move games/furniture.

Wish me luck, don't have a lot of faith in this deal coming through now. Going to be seriously aggravated if I spend the money on this now and then she sells it from under my feet. On my birthday. :|

I got to drive 3 hours each way once only to wait there for 2 hours before giving up and driving home.
I got a call the next day from the guy who bought the machine wanting to know if i still wanted to buy it cause he felt bad for what he did to me. His name is David Knapp and he lives in Arlington Texas if anyone wants to say "hi"
So i hope it all works out for you.

Thanks for keeping track of people like that..good to know. I'm gonna start my own file for local CL'ers that are flakes...

I dunno what's going on with this thing. The lady removed the listing but didn't say anything so I don't know if I should flip out or what. I'll probably call her tomorrow just to make sure, lol...

Bad part is, asking advice on "potential purchases" gives everyone a heads up it's there.
I rarely ask with too much detail even from our local guys as some competition happens.
I did ask about a $300 High Speed a while back, but it wasn't a CL listing, so no danger of someone swiping it before I could decide (well not based on me asking anyway).

Keep us updated, sounded like a cool deal.

I was interested in that game. But from the pictures it had the worst playfield wear that I had ever seen.
I agree. Price is right and was interested in it too until I saw the playfield pics... It looks like ass. Very very heavy wear you can barely make out any of the artwork.

Good, more for me. I don't mind doing the resto work, even if it takes a while to get the money and tools...

Plus, in the meanwhile, I can let the kids play it until they get bored with it and not really care about the condition of the field. :p Still way the hell better than paying 300$ for a beat up home-version EM.

I just bought it. :) the lady was so nice (compared to across the phone...) I didn't even try to lowball it. The flippers and jets by the flippers seem a bit weak but othwerwise, mechanically, the machine works. Sounds great as well.

Coin door is locked, I have a set if keys they got from previous owner but doesn't open the cab...will likely have to be drilled out. Backglass looks like it in about ad pristine condition as I could possibly hope for. I think it may be starting to bubble in a few areas but nothing has flaked yet that I saw. Side art is in good condition...I can touch up as needed and fully repaint down the road when there's nothing better to do.

The playfield, is as the pictures showed. It's bad. I expected it to be bad. It will be replaced either with the overlay or a full reproduce I I can conjure that money out my rear and get my hands on one...

Mylar under the thumpers, but it's so old and worn it's coming up before I've even touched it. Space shuttle itself appeared to have no damage, typical yellowing that I plan to try and fix with retrobrite. Will need new stickers. Ramps are in good condition..

Will post some pics once I get home and get a minute to breathe. :)

Okay, got some pics now. Mechanically, it's about 80% working from what I can tell. The actual functions of the game all seem to work. Just a few things that I need to start with...first off is getting this thing wiped down. My god, there's dust EVERYWHERE on the playfield. It's like a dirty bomb went off under the glass. There's also a very disturbing burn on one of the boards that I haven't had time to research, but it looks like something was either on fire, or arced very badly...

Yes, there's one score indicator missing. I have it, haven't hooked it up but it's said to be broken. There's also a replacement display to be soldered onto that board to fix it. Go fig. This lady also had about 25 bulbs in boxes that they got from previous owner but never used. Already replaced 1. ;)
