The old lady has graciously (sarcasm on high) allowed me an area in the basement to put the games...I have included a pic of the current condition.

We are renovating the basement and the plan is to put carpet down....My concern is that by moving the machines around, some pieces of wood (on the underside of the cab) will catch on the carpet and cause pulls in the brand new carpet....

I was thinking perhaps laminate, cork or tile but invariably we rule those out because they will feel cold in the basement...Carpet will be warm on the feet and softer for the kids to play on it....

I then thought perhaps a runner going underneath the games to protect the carpet? Like they use under desks in offices....This would allow me to rotate the game and get it on my dolly allowing me to move it around....As long as my games fill up the wall, then no one would see the ugly runner....

Another thought was to install the magic sliders...I have these under some games and they certainly help but no guarantee that some pieces of the cabinet bottom will get stuck in the carpet....

One last option would be to use wheels under the games....I thought I read somewhere here that wheels make the games unsteady, which would make this an unappealing option.....

Any thoughts? Given that the carpet will be brand new, I will feel bad about messing it up whenever I have to rotate a machine to open the back.....

What do you fellas do that have carpet under your games?

use a decent dolly?

I may be a rookie with the dolly but I usually rotate the game so I have the back facing the front and then dolly under it....

Do you put the dolly right under the front and go with it? guess it may work for short distance depending on the control panel....

edit: I am definitely a rookie on the dolly, dropped two games with it last summer (and both were strapped to the dolly)....

I try to go from the back if at all possible but if side or front is necessary, i will use a small carpet as to avoid ruining, and if it's for much of a distance other than a few feet, i would just remove the control panel first.

I have had excellent luck with those magic-slider things when moving around my arcades and pinballs on my carpet. For pinball games they are especially awesome so you're not tweaking the legs or putting lateral pressure. Also, I haven't had any snagging when the games are on those sliders - although my carpet isn't a deep pile.

The one thing I have done is I've slid the games on their back down carpeted stairs, and this has left nice dirty marks where the cabinets slid on the carpet. All those years of grime and cigarette smoke like to rub off on carpet - so use a dolly! :)
