Looking for a helpful soul to assist me in getting a "Driver.o" file to load.
Or maybe a reverse engineer of said Driver to make a usable package for a sound driver.

to load kernel modules log in as root and type
modprobe modulename

kernel modules end in .ko files so say you had a module "mymodule.ko"

modprobe mymodule.ko if it works then you have to configure it to automatically load on start. but first make sure you get it working by hand.

And in that, is the problem, older Linux uses .o files not .ko, as far as I have seen, but using modprobe does not install, insmod returns missing dependencies Like DEVFS_Register DEVFS_MkDir DEVFS_Unregister. Also IRQ has to be 11 but not sure about DMA ect...

Why are you trying to use a 14-year-old Linux distro?

Are you trying to use a third-party sound driver? modprobe will load whatever other modules the module you want depends on, so it sounds like you're missing a dependency, which is a sign of a jacked up kernel or third-party driver.

Because It is a proprietary Sound Driver, and they Used Redhat in there Juke system. Its one of the 2 that I found that use the RPM packages.
I am using this on old hardware, really old hardware. So it made sense to use a old Distro. some of the newer dropped support for the Chips Video Chipset, and a few other things that I need.
Modprobe does not work, Yes I think it has to do with the devfs dependency that insmod reports. But I don't know if that's because I am not telling it what IRQ DMA ect...
If I could get Windows to work and load a sound Driver I would, but that will never happen. There were no Win Drivers for this card.

So you are fixing a Juke? How about a little more information on the hardware and what it originally ran?

Not "Fixing" editing. Its a old Touch Tunes System. I could Care less about there Software, but it seems a waste to toss that nice Audio card, as its cut to fit to the PC case. And its a 64 Bit card Built in AD Converter ect... I was able to poke into the HHD and grab a pile of files, Like there Sound Card Driver, and some other things. But its all hard to get to, as its on some hidden partition ect...
It looks like there running a old Red Hat Distro custom of course, and a modified Kernel Based on 2.4.16. I know its probably a waste of time to try, but it would make a nice clean system, once all of there crap is tore out. Damn thing wouldn't even run without Just the LED "Display lights hooked up.

Last time I used red hat. I switched to debain then Slackware, then gentoo and sabayon.

BTW this is not Enterprise version but version 5 from December 1997.

That's similar to what I have, Version 7.2 I also have 7.3 But that version the kernel is newer that the one for this driver. That's why I was opting to go old, to try and match kernels, and from poking around in the hhd, I noticed RPM files, that let me to the red hat series, IIRC there were only 2 distros that used RPM way back then, And another thing is I found a online job app for TT and there one big pre-req is solid knowledge of redhat Linux.

You're going to need a newer version of Red Hat. The first version of Linux to have devfs was 2.3.46pre5, and RH 7.0 uses 2.2.16. Try RH 7.1 or newer.
