I just did a tube swap (with yoke swap) and I'm following a tutorial on purity adjustment. However, I'm having an issue. In the tutorial it says bring the yoke as far back as you can on a red test screen. Then you adjust the purity rings until all the colors are equal. The tutorial shows all colors filling the screen. However, on my screen, my blue is rounded in the corners. What's causing this and how do I fix it?

i have done a few tube swaps and never had that kind of picture but i am guessing you have the yoke too far back or forward. when i do a swap i mark where the old yoke and rings where and put the new transplant yoke back in approximately the same location and then fine tune it from there if needed.

Yes I purposely moved it as far back as I can to do purity adjustment.

what?

if you don't place the yoke correctly initially you'll never get this to adjust right. you should've just kept the original rings with the tube, that's how I've only ever done it and I never had these problems.

I think either you or your tutorial is missing a step. You're supposed to pull the yoke back, adjust the purity rings so that the bar of color in the middle is roughly center of the screen, and then move the yoke back towards the tube until the color is uniform throughout, and place the wedges under the yoke at that point and then tighten the yoke clamp. You can then adjust the the purity rings to get it just right along the edges and at the corners.

If you are pulling the yoke all the way back, and then trying to adjust the purity with the rings, you will never get it because ultimately the yoke needs to be fairly close to the main part of the tube.

I usually skip the "move the yoke way back" step and go straight to the part where I position the yoke to where the color is uniform throughout the screen.
