Greetings everyone,

Recently purchased a galaxy 2 dart board in a package deal with a foosball table. Basically it was "buy the dartboard for X dollars and I'll just give you the foosball table". I restored the foosball table - was a significant amount of $ and time. Then, a few weeks later I plugged in the dartboard to play a game of cricket with a friend. Much to my dismay, it's malfunctioning (he tested it for me before I gave him cash, but tested it on the 20, which works fine, consistently. Anyway, many numbers register as "missed". Which means it's registering as it missing the dart board scoring surface in total. If you hit a working number it says "single 3" or what not, when functioning properly.

The seller is not helping, so here I am. I'd like to repair it. I'm trying to put together a game area for the family. I have a fairly significant amount of money wrapped up in this thing even having restored and sold the foosball table. I'd rather not just toss it or sell it as broken.

Appreciate anyone that can help me with this.

Thanks!

Eric

@dave2236 sells those parts and @kittybeater does too…

I'm no expert, though i do own one. It sounds like to me, you need a new spider.
Ok. This seems like not such a big deal. Expensive part to "test" the issue with. Is there a way to test the existing matrix outside of plugging it into another board.

Thanks

If it is, have you checked the Missed Dart Detector on the inside of the Target Door?
It has a small adjustable pot on it. Or disconnect it entirely.

Also, sometimes the black plastic backs of the segments com partially off and cause the Matrix to misread the darts when thrown. You will have to remove the whole Target Assembly to see if that has happened.

Yes, this is my machine. I haven't checked anything because I don't know where to start. That's why I'm here, in an attempt to check what needs to be checked and figure out how to fix it.

Missed dart detector is the microphone? I'd prefer to leave that intact. I would imagine the matrix has priority and it's only after nothing is registered that the sound is reported. Just my hunch. Unless I'm not fully understanding you...

I'll remove the target assembly and see what I see.

Don't know what you mean by 'microphone'... I have never seen a G2 with one before.

The Missed Dart Detector is a small 3 X 1 Inch, or so, PCB mounted on the inside of the Target Door and has a very small Potentiometer mounted on to adjust its' sensitivity. There should be a Factory Label next to it with instructions on how to adjust it.

I mentioned to disconnect it completely as a way TO SEE IF THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM ...or not...

Look at the backs of your Target Segments CLOSELY..one little corner sticking up will cause problems with Darts being correctly scored.

Thanks for explaining. I didn't fully understand before. I thought it was a microphone based on a prior video I saw (I hadn't actually opened up the cabinet yet). On this second part, is this after I take it apart or just with the door open? Will give these a try. Thanks again.

To check the Target Segments you will have to take the whole Target Assembly out. Be sure to remember the orientation of the Switch Matrix in relation to the Guide Pins on the Spider.

Sometimes broken Tips make there way behind the Target and get sandwiched between it and the Target Door causing scoring problems too.

Here is the Manual... I know it is a for a Galaxy 2.5 but it is more detailed than the Galaxy 2 one and the only difference between a G2.5 and a G2 is the monitor.

So I took it apart tonight. An odd thing happened. After I took the board off to see the matrix, the matrix began working fine without the board on top of it (using my finger to tap the contacts). Then I tried to remount the board and everything was a miss again. Then, when I took the board off to test again, everything was a miss when it had worked just moments before.

Have you disconnected the Missed Dart Detector like I suggested to see if it is causing the misses? It works on vibration and maybe it is faulty or out of adjustment.

I think you're correct. I think this is the faulty part. A part that can be lived without or potentially adjusted/easily replaced.

However, I am confused now on how to put this back together. None of this stuff was mounted, all just free floating behind the board/segments. Is that the normal way? To have the board holding the mat and the matrix up? There's a bunch of holes in both the mat and matrix that appear to be for mounting but these were not being used. There's two holes on the cabinet itself that appear to be for this purpose, but not sure what type of hardware to use, if any.

Thanks again, and thanks a ton!

So, rehung everything as it was. Working fine then gave me a single miss. Consistently at one corner of a triple it was missing. Unplugged that little board and voila, working perfectly. Thank you! You're the man!

It's supposed to be adjustable, you had indicated. How does one go about doing so?

The instructions to adjust the Missed Dart Detector are in the Manual that I linked to in Post #10.

There is usually a Factory Instruction Label right next to it on the inside of the Target Door too. Yours may be missing?

It takes a little 'trial and error' to get it set right if it is indeed working properly and not damaged or faulty…

Yeah, I don't have the instructions on the door but I'll look at the manual when I get a free moment. Thanks again! I've been kicking the "other guy's" (my own) butt since getting it working!
