Need help with Cruisin' USA Machines (video problems)

Hi,
Hoping you guys can help, and hoping I'm saavy enough to do what you suggest...

I have 2 Cruisin USA Machines, one with a minor video problem, the other major (I think).

The first one, the picture, colors etc are nice, but the bottom of the picture is about 2" above the bottom of the screen. I've tried the manual adjustments to no avail (I can get picture there by stretching, but then the top of the video gets cut off because it stretches off the top of the screen. It's as if I can't move the whole picture down enough so it shows fully on the screen. The image near the bottom also seems compressed, as you can see in the attached photo.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated! I'll post pics of that machine in the post, and the other machine in the next post...

The second machine I just get blue, no picture at all. The logo is a burn-in, not the video. I tried all adjustments and get nothing but blue lines.

Is this one toast? Any saving it?

I'm thinking the first monitor needs a cap kit. As far as the second monitor, have you swapped the game boards and verified it isn't an issue with the game?

Thanks. I've seen the mentions of cap kits but not sure what they are, or what's involved. Is there a post of link you can point me to?

As for swapping the game boards, is that the biiiiig circuitboard? Guess that would be worth a try. How difficult is that or is it pretty much just unplug everything, swap boards, plug everything back in?

THANKS for your help!

First learn how to properly discharge your monitor so you dont get shocked. I just use a LARGE flat head screwdriver and 2 pairs of vise grips.

On your last picture at the top left you can see one of the caps. It is the black can with the white stripe that has negative signs on it. There are several on the boards mostly smaller. They have values printed on them. If you go here.

You can buy the correct capacitors in a kit form for the monitor you are working on. Go to radio shack and buy a soldering iron and a desoldering iron (bulb type) some flux and good solder meant for electronic work and find a old board and then practice and then practice some more until you get it right. it's not hard. If you pay close attention to the negative and positive orientation of the caps and do them one at a time you will be fine. He has maps to show where each cap goes here is an example.

The positive side of new caps usually have a longer leg and the negative side has negative or minus signs printed right on it.

Your monitor is listed here on his info page. Look down for the "E" medium resolution models

Yes switch the Big circuit board and see if the issues travel with the board.

It also could be the power supply in the second game. It looks like there's a bit of a raster on that monitor, so I'm guessing something other than the monitor is broken.

Also of note that the raster looks shrunken on the second monitor, so I expect that it also needs a cap kit.
