Newbie to arcade collecting and repairing. I picked up a cabaret Centipede. The game plays blind. You can start a game but nothing appears on the monitor at any time even when you turn on the game. The seller had no idea what the problem is.

Does it need a new monitor or could something just be loose?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It could be a multitude of things. The Centipede cabarets had GO7 monitors in them, and luckily they are relatively easy to replace/repair. Check for blown fuses and unplugged connections first and foremost.

If your fuses all check out I'd do a cap kit on that monitor. If you've never done one you might want to see if there's anyone close to you that has and can help you.

Cap kit isn't going to fix a completely dead monitor. He needs to troubleshoot first, not blindly throw parts at it. We don't even know what kind of monitor it has, or even if that is the problem.

First things first. Take a picture of the inside back of the cabinet, showing the monitor and wiring. Unplug the power cable from the monitor and turn on the game - measure the voltage at the connector, see if the socket is supplying 120vAC for the monitor.

Look at the monitor chassis for blown fuses, and take a good picture of the monitor chassis and post that here.

Ian is absolutely right, I shouldn't have generalized. Sorry, my bad.
I've fixed a lot of dead monitors with a simple cap kit but always after knowing that I do have power, good fuse's etc. Plus 9 times out of 10 your going to do a cap kit anyways.
When your checking those fuse's make sure they're the correct ones. A lot of times people will replace a bad fuse with whatever they have on hand, that can cause other problems as well.

Ok. So I read the stickey. Very helpful information. I am pretty sure it is a GO7 monitor. Is the monitor chassis attached to the side cabinet next to the monitor ? I can't seem to see any fuses on this. Do you need to discharge the monitor and somehow pull out the monitor chassis?

Sorry for the basic questions but this is my first video game and first time trying to fix a game.

I can't seem to upload any of the pictures that I took. I will try to figure out why it won't load.
