Got the board.
Got the ROMs.
When I try to load the ROMs, the MenuSys software says "waiting for the board".

So....
Do I need to power the board with the "optional" 5V power adapter, as opposed to powering it from the edge connector.

Is there something I am missing here?

You do have the serial cable plugged in, right? Do you have the software looking at the correct COM port?

My cab is in the garage, I program the boards in my office so I have to use the +5 power supply... but you should be able to program with the edge connector plugged in as well... you ARE powering up the cab when you're attempting to program though, right?

I am using a serial to USB connector, and the only valid COM port available.

Yes, I selected the game ROMs to install, agreed to the licensing terms, powered up the cabinet and clicked OK. The MenuSys software just sits there, saying it is "waiting on board".

Does it take a while to load the ROMs?

I did have problems selecting all the ROMs because it said there wasn't enough space. I ended up having to remove about 12 of the 48 games in order to meet the space constraints.

Now the only game I have on there is Carnival for some reason.

Should the switch on the board be set to RUN or TEST?

My board did that after loading last 2 times, I just power cycled the cabinet and the board booted fine with all the new roms.

*Edit* I was referring to your first post about "waiting for board" not the bit about only having carnival - just to clarify

I didn't ever have a problem with this, BUT, and this is IMPORTANT, if my memory serves me correctly, you have to "highlight" all of the games that are going to be loaded on to the board. If you have Carnival on there, then perhaps it was the only game loaded on to the board becuase it was the only one highlighted/selected in the programming software. That would also explain why it programming took such a short amount of time that it wasn't obvious that it was writing the game to the board???

I have tried power cycling, re-authenticating the ROMs, other comm ports, everything I can think of.

I am highlighting all the games I want to upload, so it is strange Carnival is the only one on there. Do I need to erase it before I upload others?

I had the same problem. It had to do com port issues.
Are you sure you have the proper driver for your USB to serial cable installed and the right com port? I am using Vista, and I had to keep installing the cable driver over and over again. The cable ended up being on like com port 20. I couldn't figure out how to change where it was installed. I switched to another computer, installed the driver once on com 1 or 2 and it worked fine.
I power the board from the edge connector. The monitor on the cab should display text and programming progress if it is working.

OK, well that makes sense. I will switch to another PC and see if I can't get it to work. Will report back. Thanks!

OK, that worked. I had to reconfigure the Port settings in Device manager, and then it worked just fine.

Thanks!
