This Game is all original, power supply and all.

It had the normal corroded battery holder so always come up in test and you needed to push the Advance button inside to get a game to play. Even going back to factory settings every time the Game was plugged in it was not starting up with the factory settings and you could not change any of the setting in the program mode, the player 2 joy stick can not change the values, but player 2 works just fine in play mode. The problem was it was giving you unlimited lives and a game never ended and you can't change it.

Replaced the battery holder and have 4.8v on pin 18 of the CMOS chip, but still no way can you get this thing to program. Replaced the CMOS with a 6114 from GPE and that changed some of my symptom's but still can not get setting to change.

Left the batteries out over night and with quite a bit of fiddling around (testing front door interlock sw, checking for 40v, ground side repairs etc.) finally got it to go to a full factory settings.

Now Game play is as it should but you still can not get it to set preferences like FREE PLAY.

Any ideas?

Thanks to yellowdog and a little time with the logic probe got it figured out, 6E was bad.

Thanks Ken

There are usually only a couple of things that go wrong on the write protect circuit.

1) make sure the memory protect switch and wiring are working correctly. Use a meter to check continuity on the memory protect wire to ground when the coin door is closed and make sure it opens when the coin door is opened.

2) If you have a logic probe, make sure chips 6E and 6I are functioning correctly.

It usually come down to one of these things.
