Hey all, a friend asked me to help him with his MM5. I've never worked on a jukebox, but he knows I work on pins, so he asked. Naturally, he had lost the keys. Without checking here first, I tried drilling the lock in front. Once the bit went through and I still couldn't open it, I stopped. I could hear the latches on each side making noise when I wiggled the front panel.

So now I'm hoping you guys can help get me back on track. The bit I used was 1/4". The lock won't turn yet, although I didn't have a big screwdriver to really crank on it. Any suggestions appreciated.

You should not drill out the cabinet locks.

Yes, I figured that part out when I searched here before posting. I think I'm beyond keys at this point though. A 1/4" bit doesn't sound big, but I'm sure I got most of the tumblers. Are you familiar with the mechanism? I'm wondering if I try to widen the hole to a vertical slot (or horizontal) if I can open it with a large screwdriver, or should I just use a larger bit and keep drilling until the whole lock is drilled out? A link to a pic of the back side of the lock mechanism would be awesome. I don't want to leave my buddy hanging and I'd rather not pay a locksmith to clean up my mess. Thanks again.

If you heard parts falling into the juke when you were drilling, trying to use a big screwdriver won't work.....the back of the lock has wire guides that pull the latches open. But....if that bit didn't drill off the back of the lock you might be in luck....you can continue to drill into the lock to remove the tumblers as long as you dont drill to deep. good luck
