I am in need of some help with my Sinistar....

First off, I am installing a JROK into a dedicated Sinistar cockpit. Trying to leave everything original if the next owner wants to convert it back.

Anyway, I was hoping someone could shed some light on how the joystick works and if there are any test you can do on it. I wired is up to the colors from

3J2: Player Panel
1 - Up-Down Switch A1 (Orn-Brn)
2 - Up-Down Switch B1 (Orn-Red)
3 - Up-Down Switch C1 (Orn)
4 - Up-Down Direction 1 (Orn-Yel)
5 - Righ-Left Switch A1 (Orn-Grn)
6 - Righ-Left Switch B1 (Orn-Blu)
7 - Key
8 - Righ-Left Switch C1 (Orn-Gry)
9 - Righ-Left Direction 1 (Orn-Wht)
10 - Fire 1 (Red-Blk)
11 - Sinibomb 1 (Red-Brn)
12 - N/C
13 - 1 Player Start (Yel-Grn)
14 - 2 Player Start (Yel-Blu)*
15 - Ground (Blk)
*2 Player start not connected in cockpit games.

to match up to the attached wiring from the instructions (see picture). At this time, I only get motion in the down left direction, but it can be modified to left as well.

Is it possibly a problem with the joystick (I don't know if it is good), or did I just mess up wiring it last night (really late).

Thank you
Brian

I have 49-way Williams sticks hooked to my JROK, with no issues. I actually built a 10-foot extension cable from the JROK header to the front of the cab, so I can plug sticks in and test them. (I had to add an extra wire to bring power from the JROK to the stick, but that wasn't too hard.)

Note there is a switch test mode in the JROK setup menu, which you can use to see the opto signals from the 49-way stick. You may have something wired wrong, or the opto board could have issues.

If you are sure you have power to the board, you can also test the outputs of each pin on the stick connector, to see if they are all activating properly.

oh yeah, the joystick optical board has its own +5 and ground pins that you will have to provide your own wiring to.

maybe that's why the power supply boards on those games had unused +5 and ground pins. whenever they're done playing around at work I'll have to check this!

that said, if you were to unplug the joystick or the interface board on the original hardware I think that's the direction it defaults to :0
