Hi :)

I'd like to start out by saying, love the site and the listings. Really brought back memories for me browsing through some of those games. Since is my first post, and I do understand that I'm pretty green on this subject, I figured I would begin by asking for a bit of help.

I've been trying to remember what a certain arcade game was from my childhood. It was a standing cabinet and had a few distinct elements of game play that never left me. The rest, unfortunately, has faded into oblivion with my age and I've been looking for this game for a number of years now (15 to be more accurate).

Maybe the members of this forum, with your better expertise in classic arcade games, could help me narrow this down and finally ease my mind?

What I remember::

It was a standing cabinet, that much I can say. Also, the game was centered around a house or castle... I think the story involved a bunch of children being kidnapped and the hero (you) were fighting your way to the top to beat the boss.

The game itself, from what I remember, was top down and you moved through the house bottom to top of screen with the screen scrolling as you progressed. The weird thing about this game that always remained with me was that there were mirrors in the house (or portals) and if you kicked or punched them a child/baby would come out and you would collect the kid. If you hit the mirror enough, and collected enough children, a red one (?) would come out and collecting that one would give you temporary super power.

The only other thing I remember is that one of the bosses of the game was a a Vampire.

I know it may not be much to go on, but maybe you folks can figure this mystery game out?

Thanks in advance,

Darian

Close..

Already thought about Moonwalker. Unfortunately that's not it...

The entire game (from what I recall) revolved around fighting your way up the floors of a castle or mansion and took place inside that building. There was also the mirror thing to save the kids.

Interesting

That looks like an interesting game... but sadly no. The graphics were better... again about the attacking mirrors to free children and if you got the red baby from the mirror you'd get temporary super power... this is really a doozy to figure out for me.

On the other hand, you folks are really introducing me to other interesting games while we're at this... thanks :)

Actually Monster Bash is not so interesting.

Do you have a rough era for the game? Mid-late 80's or 90's?
These guys know EVERY game- usually takes less than 10 minutes per identification.

It wasn't a side scroller. The scrolled from the top down and it was generally a top down view. You worked your way "forward" toward the top of the screen for each level.. like how Ikari Warriors scrolls and looks.

Do you remember what the controls were like (number of buttons, 1 player or 2, etc.)?

It was two player at most. Definitely not one of those four player cabinets like Gauntlet. More colorful than the last game proposed... Graphics were better too. I'd lean towards later 80s and maybe early 90s for the type of graphics it had.

I remember one other part of the game... there was a part of the game where you were working up a hallway and barrels were being rolled down at you:

Of course there were also enemies to fight as well.

You're still describing Kyros.

But continue your noble quest to find that other game that has kids being rescued from a mirror/portal...

Looks like we have a winner! :D

Seriously.. I love you guys...!

From the original shots I couldn't identify it, but thanks to the additional shots, it works out perfectly!

I can't thank you guys enough. Finally I have a name to associate the memories to.

It's been a very long time since I've seen this game... anyone here play it, and if so, what did you think? You know when you're a kid, games tend to be way cooler than they actually are when you look back at them.. lol

Mame...

Actually, the thought didn't occur to me. I was more interested in putting a name to the memories than anything else. Sort of like a song that gets stuck in your head but you can't name it... you just have a small bit of it looping in your head.

That was this game to me. Except it's been in my head looping since I was about 9 years old or so... about 20 years.

I suppose I could look it up and see if it is available somewhere for old time sake. I sure as heck know there are no physical machines anywhere remotely near me... actually, there seems to be a complete lack of arcades as well..

Is it just me, or are Arcades going extinct?
