I just picked up a game at an auction and the monitor doesn't work. The game plays 'blind' and the monitor looks to be in very good shape. I checked the power to the monitor and it checked out fine. Can anyone give me some things I should check to see if I can get the thing working?

Thanks!

I looked on the chassis and found that it is a WG 19K7689. I didn't see that monitor on Bob Robert's site. I checked the fuse and it was fine. Any other suggestions for troubleshooting?

2 more things that might help someone.

1. I plugged the power to the monitor along with the video cable from my cabinet into another spare monitor I have and everything worked fine.

2. There is no ground on the plug into the outlet. When I touch the metal frame of the monitor when it is plugged in I get shocked.

I believe your monitor is a variation on the standard K7000. Here is a manual for your monitor:

The grounding problem(s) should be rectified before you continue. I had a monitor that would only come up when a ground (usually me ) was present. If the plug had the third (ground) prong cut off then replace the plug. Replacements can be bought almost anywhere such as Home Depot or WalMart - I have even seen them at better equipped supermarkets. Next install a cap kit, older caps can dry out and become faulty. They are available from Bob Roberts' site. These things give you a good baseline for additional troubleshooting.

Actually I am a fairly big and severely uncoordinated guy so I usually hold on to something while working on these machines. I had my other hand on a metal frame of the cab that was tied to the FG.

More recently I got bit by the anode of a WG monitor. I was at Dokert's place and while leaning against some scaffolding he was using as a bench I bumped the cup from a tube we were testing as I tried to reach over it.

can you post a pic of the monitor chassis?

Does your monitor have neck glow when powered on?
Do you hear any static upon power up?
Is the brightness pot turned all the way down? this will make the monitor look black even when on.
Did you check the fuses with a meter to be sure they are good or just visually? Usually when fuses on monitors blow it's pretty obvious but it's always good practice to check all fuses with a meter as fuses that look good may actually be bad.

another possibility although not likely is that you have a med res monitor. I've plugged one into a standard cab and had neck glow but no pic just a dark screen. Of course with a med res game it fires right up.
