Hey Guys,
I am trying to get the local print house to print me patterns for a Star Wars cockpit. Here is a link to the page since you cant attach a .DXF here. SW cockpit plans

Please let me know how much to get this done. Before I get beat up on here, yes I watched Brian's video and still couldn't get it figured out.

Thanks,
John

Will this do?
Note that exporting to PDF butchers the units... it's creating a printable layout to some standard paper size.

That's where I crashed the train. I think we lose the 1:1 ratio and I need to print it full size to use as patterns.

What do you mean by "editable .PDF"?

The attached PDF should have the right dimensions, but note that the "paper size" is 160" x 200", so it's not really a standard paper size that someone can print. Large format printers can print 200" long, but I've never personally seen any with 160"+ wide paper. I would think you'd want to break this into strips to print on 48" wide paper, which would require rotating and shuffling parts around.

I was told to make sure the fie wasn't locked and could be edited. They are able to break up the file and print the sections individually. They did this for me with the Gravitar file.

Thank again Dogp, I owe you one!

Sounds like they just want a PDF with vector art and not password protected. I haven't looked at that file you linked, but I bet the creator password locked it. Which then means you're unable to open in a vector art program like Illustrator unless you know the pw.

Unfortunately a lot of the files at classicarcadecabinets.com are really hard to work with. What I wound up doing was import a DXF into FreeCAD, convert the individual pieces into sketches and then to solid pieces. Then I assembled the cabinet within FreeCAD. It was at that step I noticed that many of the parts are drawn wrong. I had to take detailed measurements of the DXF and looked through other resources to get something that actually works. Some results from this can be seen at https://661.org/proj/arcade/, but they're all about a year out of date.

when i was in the print trade an editable pdf normally means not locked (like password)... PDF is basically a format that came from reduced version of Postscript made by Adobe, in the early years we would use AI (Illustrator) format for vectors but PDF is more common now and SVG is too

I have sent the original DXF and the Dogp PDF to a person who is going to break it into 4' x 8' drawings to make it easier to match to the wood.
