A few months ago, I did the usual overhaul on a non-working WG6100. I also installed the LV2000. I replaced all transistors and got it ready to test, then discovered that the monitor was cracked at the neck. I remember at the time having a document that discribed how to check all the various voltages, before going any further. But since I was totally bummed over the cracked tube, I just shelved the whole project.

This last weekend I finally got around to swapping the tube, and it worked well. The picture looked pretty good but a little wobble. I managed to play a full game of Space Duel. Then as I was looking at the back again, the LV2000 released some magic smoke. Thats when I remembered that I hadn't checked the B+, or anything else for that matter.

So, I've ordered a new LV2000 and I'm waiting on it to arrive. Since I assed up the monitor, I thought I'd get on here and ask for some help. I would really like to play some Space Duel this weekend. Can someone point me to that document or give me a complete rundown on what to check.

If you're talking about the 6100 faq, it's on ionpool.net in the monitor section.

And Jeff Hendrix told me he'd replace a bad LV2000 if you send it back to him. Check with him first, though...

I'll try, but I am somewhat certain it was something I did. I'm pretty much in over my head on this one. I have the FAQ but cant seem to find anything like what I remember, it could've been in the LV2000 instructions, but I cant locate those either.

I bought three LV2000's last time. I installed two that worked perfectly, and gave the third to a buddy. he installed it and it smoked. It was installed properly, but might have had another issue with the chassis that caused it to die. I told that to Jeff and he said if I sent it back he would replace it - no questions asked...

Before it burned up, I was able to check the voltages on the LV section, one was in range. I think it was 26 v but the other was around 33 something, and adjusting the pot on the LV2000 produced no change in voltage. That's the side that shortly after started glowing and then smoked. I'm very much a rookie and likely soldered something wrong in the cap kit or transistor install.

make sure you removed all the right parts for the lv section cause i ended up removing a part that was not supposed to be removed, i cant remember which one that was but i will get the name later, also go back and make sure you didnt solder anything in backwards or anything and look for any bulging caps etc

I replaced the D100-D103 Diodes and the two filter caps, gave the board a good look over and then installed the new LV2000. After a few minutes the positive side off the LV2000 started smoking. I tested this without connecting anything as per directions, so I know the problem is on the board. Voltage in that side won't go below 36. The negative side is perfect at -26.

did you replace the caps at C100 and C101?
