Anyone ever try hooking one up to a medium res monitor? The site says it possible but I cannot get mine to sync at all.

I have a 33k3201 W/G monitor.

Do you have the version 2 card?

Where does it fail so that we can pinpoint the problem? Windows, MAME, a particular game?

I'd email Andy at Ultimarc and ask him if this card was revisioned at some point and time. Here's why I wonnder

"Now supports 25Khz modes as well, on multi-frequency monitors"

Now??? Does that not mean it was only 15Khz at one point?

..

I have no idea what version I have. My card isnt red though, its like a goldish color.

It wont sync at all. basically boots and the monitor looks scrambled.

The arcadevga site is very vague about the 25khz info.

The ArcadeVGA card is connected to a JPAC and the jumpers on are 15k and 25k.

i can tell the screen is booting, but its all scrambled.

Keep in mind this was just working perfectly on a standard res monitor.

Only the version 2 card will support 25k. There are many revisions of the actual card so don't look at the color. I forget if there is a sticker on it that labels it as version 2. Is it agp or pcie?

In any case, I think I see your problem. Let me see if I have it correct.
1. You had it working pefectly on a 15k monitor.
2. You swapped monitors to 25k and didn't do anything else.
3. You expect Windows to magically identify your monitor and set the correct resolution?

How close am I?

...

Close, but the magically part is not true at all.

I went to the site and read up on the info:

Can I use a 25Khz (Medium Res) monitor?
Its possible but 25Khz medium-res monitors are rather limiting for MAME and not ideal. Very few games will be able to run at native resolutions. If you have a monitor which is capable of being set to 15 or 25, then its best to set it to 15.
You will not get any usable boot screens on a 25Khz monitor, and all games will need to run in one resolution, with hardware-stretch enabled for almost all.
To set it up:
First install the drivers using a PC monitor on the DVI port. Then run the Tri-Sync Utility. Then set the resolution to 512 X 384. (or you could use 448 X 384).
Now disconnect the PC monitor and connect the medium-res monitor. There will not be a visible screen until Windows has finished loading.

and still couldnt get it to work.. so NO.. I didnt magically expect it to work.

My attempt at humor must of been missed. It always seems to be funnier in my head then on these forums.

Hmm. I wonder if you have a version one card then.

What connectors are on your card? Also, is it agp or pcie? What chipset is the card?
If you answer these questions, I may be able to tell you what version of card you have.

I have tested the card at Medium Resolution and it worked fine.

...

Heh.. no biggie about the humor.. I got it, I guess im just frustrated a little here.

my card has DVI / tv out / VGA out.

I just installed trisync to see if it works.

looks like an AGP card.. but ill have to check.

Which port did you connect the monitor to?

The directions seem a little misleading, but you should be plugging the arcade monitor into the VGA connector.

You don't happen to have a digital tri-sync monitor handy?

...

No I dont have a Digital trisync :(

I have it connected to the VGA port on the card.

By the way, my card seems to be an ASUS card. I can see the fan says ASUS. thats weird.. for some reason I thought all ArcadeVGA cards were ATI.

I'm surpised you mentioned it having a fan. I thought all ARCADEVGA cards were passive cooled (no fan)? Don't forget ATI whored their chipsets just like Nvidia does. Not that this helps much but seriously I wonder what card you actually have in your hand? Does it have a sticker or silk screened area that states it's an ArcadeVGA? Have you tried using the program powerstrip?

I usually don't mess with AracdeVGA/MAME stuff so bear with me....

1. What little I do remember reading is only a few medium resolutions are supported.
2. Have you tried adjusting the horizontal sync on the monitor itself ? A typical arcade monitor needs some adjusting regardless of what you have connected to it as long as it's getting a usable sync rate.

Again, don't look at the actual physical manufacturer, color, heatsink, etc. Ultimarc cards are standard off the shelf cards with a different BIOS. They have used a number of cards and it's all called Arcade VGA.

Now, PCie is good. PCIe was only used on the Version 2. You have a card that should do Medium Resolution. I think the DVI connector was also only used on Version 2 cards as well.

I'm not familar with the monitor. Does it use neg sync?

And you installed the Tri-Sync Utility? Reboted. Then set the resolution to 512x384?

...

The pos and negative sync are together now.

I installed the trisync program and changed the resolution to 512 x 384.

Now the arcade monitor doesnt sync and I cannot get a vga monitor to work on it either :)

Jon

That sucks.

Well you should be able to connect the VGA monitor and boot into Safe Mode if you need to. I'd probably uninstall the driver, reboot back into safe mode, then reinstall the driver, the trysync utility.

But really sit back, drink a beer and email Andy. He will know better then us and will walk you through it.
