So... My need for speed was acting up (not initializing components and I pulled the cpu, installed a ssd and now I get what is pictured. The dongle is the original and the housing is broken but it lights up and the computer recognizes it.

. Any ideas?

Any luck on this?

I've encountered the dongle error when there are linking issues, which tells me there are errors in the software that it's falling through to the wrong error screen.

On NFSU, if you unplug the nytric IO PCB (the PCB that is mounted inside the computer but really connects to the computer via USB loop back cable) and maybe unplug the steering force feedback board -- the game should boot into the game without needing a dongle. This was probably for development purposes. You might try doing that, then try plugging in the dongle.

The Dongle is an Alladin HASP4 I believe, and it has a driver set built into the Windows XPe image. Perhaps when you converted to SSD somehow this driver got damaged?

I converted my two Undergrounds to Dell computers -- but am having issues getting them to link. Everything else is working though.

Will doing that repair the issue? If I leave everything unplugged but the dongle and vga cable the machine boots just fine

Your theory was right. Game boots now and plays attract sights and sounds but now I have no coin mech or diagnostic button. Can't actually play game

Are you referring to the Whole card? That is the I/O card AKA: Nytric USB card.

Why would you suspect that as your issue when your having Dongle problems? Does the Dongle sense the I/O card??

Originally couldn't get past "searching for dongle". Unplugged USB from that board and got past dongle issue.

Now I can see attract video and audio but no coin op and no configure button

That board controls "all the controls" lol so without it you will not be able to do anything. :)

The game software has the drivers for that card embedded in it so if the software is messed up or there is corruption of some kind it may cause the controller card to not work. But it is also likely that you Could have a bad card.

These are a "universal" USB card. so there not linked to a specific game per se. So if you could find one for sale that was tested good it would work, If that was your problem.

You can have it. I have no use for it and it has been sitting on a shelf for over a year, hoping someone would be able to make a windows driver set for it to be able to use it with other programs. Nothing has ever came of it so.....

I would request you pay for shipping though.
Shoot me a PM with your Name and address and I will send it to you USPS priority Mail.

Old thread... I know... but I am now getting the very same error. That said... out of about 10-12 attempts to boot it actually DID boot once...

...but not since.

I find it very strange that I was able to get it to work ... once. It was right after I went in to the BIOS and re-set everything... it then actually let me play. Power down... power back up... I get the Dongle error.

>argh<

FWIW ... NFS Carbon is working. I've not tried NFS GT, but I'd guess it's working too.
