Need For Speed Underground Complete 100% Working DG41TY Installation Tutorial

Hi,

Don't waste your time trying to hack drivers on an existing hard drive. Fresh installation steps below:

It's going to cost you some $ in disks from Global VR, but you'll be able to install from scratch anytime you need. And you will be able to link up to 4 NFSUs if you have them.
Currently cloning drives will not allow you to link. Don't ask me for disks. I payed full price for mine, and you should to. I'm happy they make them available, and am not going to contribute to them upping the price due to peeps giving them away for free.

You will need to purchase Software Recovery Disk #050-0225-01 and Version 1.1 of Need For Speed Underground (2 disk set). The Software Recover Disk if for NFS Carbon, but don't worry about that. It will work fine for NFSU.

Here's the hardware I used:

DG41TY ($40.00 shipped on ebay with processor and ram)
120GB SanDisk Solid State Drive ($55.00 from Best Buy)
BFG 9600 GT Video Card ($25.00 Shipped on ebay)
Nytric Controller (stock in NFSU PCs)
4 port NEC USB care (stock in NFSU PCs)
*Removed modem

Installation steps.

1) Run SRD #050-0225-01 (power cycle machine after install).
2) Let the install package do it's auto configuration.
2.5) *If video driver install prompts appear don't install until after OS configuration is done and game disks prompt appears.
3) When asked to insert NFS Carbon game disks, wait, and install any video card drivers if needed. Do not reboot after any video driver installations. just proceed to next step.
4) Insert NFSU v1.1 installation disk 1. follow on screen prompts until installation is complete.

Post installation notes:

Since this is a combination of the NFSC and NFSU process, there are a couple of cosmetic issues that won't impact the game.
1) You will see the Windows XP splash screen for a few seconds upon boot up.
2) The "Waiting For Components To Install" splash screen will no longer appear, so you will get a blank screen until the steering calibration screen appears.

Possible Video Card issue.
Some of the Geforce card brands have an issue with clock speed with NFSU. If you have problems with the game freezing with infinite sound loop, that only a power cycle will fix, there are 2 possible culprits.
1) Power Supply
2) GeForce clock speed issue.
Make sure you have a good working minimum 550 watt power supply. If you're certain your power supply is good, you will need to install a free app called RivaTuner. Use RivaTuner to lower the clock speed of your video card. You will need to do a search online for instructions. I'm not going into that here, or anywhere for that matter. That's on you to figure out. It's not difficult. Most won't even encounter this issue, but here's the fix just in case.

When you're all done installing. Practice. Cause I'll kick all y'alls a$$e$ at this game.

I looked for the : Software Recovery Disk #050-0225-01 in the Global VR parts store and looks like they no longer sell them. Any other version I should get that will work for a NFSU?

So I've purchased the following items as listed above:
DG41TY ($40.00 shipped on ebay with processor and ram)
120GB SanDisk Solid State Drive ($55.00 from Best Buy)
BFG 9600 GT Video Card ($25.00 Shipped on ebay)
and have the other 2 things from I need from the existing PC. I'm missing the software to re-install the game, mine didn't come with any disks and the recovery disks listed above are no longer for sale.
Only ones listed at the Gloval VR site are these:

Game Install Disks, Need for Speed Underground (050-0083-01)

Game Install Disks, Need for Speed Underground (2 CD set)

Part Number: 050-0083-01

Price: $40.00

Anyone knows if these will work?
Hate to spend 40 bucks on them if they won't work on that setup.

Yes it works fine. I also used a dg31pr and 9500 gt card and install drivers for video card.
only issues I had was with crt monitors going blind after first race. Fix was hit windows key, grv shutdown, windows key display manager or equivilant (its on the list near top) change from 32 bit color to 16bit color apply and make sure it saved. I had to do this a few time on on particular monitor before it properly saved settings and worked correctly.

Hello mate im going through this drama ATM and happily came across your thread . My PC occasionally freezes and hits me up with a blue screen of death upon reset its fine intermittley (some times I get a whole night others maybe an hour) so I may look to swap over some ram, but I'm keen to look into to this jourey you undertook. I have contacted VR Global about above recovery disk versions and will grab a set of install disks 1.1( I do have a copy that came with the cab but not sure if the version is 1.1 or before any knowledge on the underground install versions would be helpful as not to double up on cost if need not be.

I've chased down a DG41TY - cpu e2200 2.4ghz and fan/heatsink had a 9600GT laying about. I was wondering on a few things if you could clarify please: namely I came across your thread about having issues with the realtek onboard audio drivers on the xp forum- spent most of today reading up on this - and with above SRD 1.1 carbon is there any issues with the sound drivers on this or is it ok now with the carbon embedded xp version?

Havr you got a little more info on the power supply i assume its just a standard ATX 550 watt as mentioned above with a generic (24pin I think?) connector for onboard. No other nik knacks i need to get my head around never built a pc so hope to get all my ducks in a row and so far above has been really helpful

Any info on above is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Y

I did this install but I'm having an issue when the game boots up I cannot get the steering wheel and the pedals to calibrate even if I go into the operator menu. Once I exit the operator menu the steering wheel allows me to select stuff and I can start a game. The pedals do not working the game automatically accelerates for you the steering wheel has no force feedback and the steering only works about 25% each way which makes the car turn 100% clearly need to be calibrated. Does anybody know of a fix
