Can anyone confirm or deny that the steering and force feedback assembly/wiring is the same on Need For Speed and Rush 2049. Meaning, are they interchangeable.

Thanks,
John

Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to dig mine out of storage at the moment....

having recently parted out both machine I can tell you that the FF motor / harness is identical ... not sure about all the other wiring upstream. At some point the wiring would change since NFS is PC based but it looks like the plugs to the motor are the same.

I have (4) working motors if you are searching for one.

They are the same. If you look closely you will see on the Need for Speed a patent label for Midway Games West, the successor company to Atari Games. Atari developed the force feedback steering for Hard Driving.

The same unit is also used in the modern Raw Thrills driving games and most of the modern Midway games back in the day. The only real variation I have found is differences in how the 5 ohm pot for the steering is mounted or the kind of 5 ohm pot used.

Thanks! I assumed they were all the same , since no one usually "re-invents the wheel" (pun intended) these days, in an effort to save $.

Rush the Rock and Rush (not 2049) are the odd ducks. 90VAC motor in those games.

That is true. Hard Drivin also had an odd duck force feedback steering. Once Midway acquired Atari, both companies started using the style in use today. I believe Happ controls makes most of them under license.
