I've got a pair of Need for Speed GTs. One has a bad battery on the mother board which seems like an easy fix. I can get it to boot by plugging in a keyboard and bypassing the bios settings. The other one boot up but then shows an error

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
please re-install a copy of the above file.

Any ideas?

bad hard drive ???
don't want to send you down the wrong road but those hard drives can fail. try swapping HD and see if the second one boots and then you will know

good luck

Well figured it out. Turns out the USB ports on the PC were cracked and must be shorting or something. There was a USB port card installed in one of the PCI slots so I moved the USB connectors over to it and it booted right up.
