ok, while i was able to get maverick working,

it has a few issues.....i hadn't been able to work on it for awhile until today

problem

1. right flipper is causing machine to reset at various intervals

i know this because i "played" a game with the glass off using my hand to move the ball, it never reset

as soon as i used the right flipper it did

2. there are 3 "optical" switches for the paddlewheel

none were registering, i was able to get the "bottom lock" switch to work

however the other 2 arent, the wheel motor had a small christmas style bulb acting as a bridge and was BLACK so i removed it, the motor gets hot but doesn't work so i'm assuming that it needs replaced

so im wondering if the wheel motor is causing the 2 "opto's" to not work

sorry pics unavailable until tomorrow (in storage unit)

The flipper blowing a fuse is probbaly a bad or missing dioed on the flipper coil..

Opto operation can be checked in switch test...Optos on the MAVERICK are a pain.. they are not BRIGHT enough to shine all the way across to the other side, new ones are available from pinball resources that are the same but different parts were used so they will work a little better (pricey thought). I spent hours working on one of these pins and changed out a resistor on the opto board to a different value and that got them working 100%..I will look to see if I can find my notes.

I don't know what "christmas style bulb" you are talking about, but a bad opto should not cause a motor to over heat, I would check for a mechanical jam on the motor stopping it from turning, if not then a bad gear box maybe? Christmas bulbs are not standard pinball so sounds like a mod someone done to it..current limiter??

I don't have any repair tips for your "maverick"......but, IMO, that's a very fun pin. It's on my short list......you just acquire? Get a good price?

I don't see them pop up regularly......nice pickup.

the flipper isnt blowing a fuse.....it just resets

i would appreciate the notes for the opto fix!

it seemed to me the motor might be locked, but ill take a closer look tomorrow

no i bought it a few months ago of ebay , i paid 300 but it had a water damaged board in the bottom of cabinet i got it working by replacing a burned veristor on the power switch and tinkering with the drop targets .....i do like the coops cash mode ....hehe

my bad "fuse" instead of "resets"..still look for a bad diode on flipper coil...

will get back to you on the optos

The flipper reset issue is probably similar to what happens on a WPC machine. I'd suspect a bad or going bad bridge rectifier that drops just enough to cause the game to reset when the flipper is fired. By all means double check the diode but get your DMM on the power section and see if you can watch the power dip when it resets...

I know this is an older post, but I recently got a Maverick with no power supply board. I'm told the game works fine but won't know till I get the power board, which is in the mail. however, upon inspection, I have seen that mine too has a small, Christmas looking light, wired across the contacts for the paddle boat motor. Manually turning the motor gears works easily, but again, don't know if it works. What is the reason for the bulb across the motor contacts? some kind of ghetto resistor to drop the power to the motor? It was obviously put there for a reason.....should I remove it?

i think my motor is toast, not sure if that light was a suppressor or not but it was blown for sure , i wouldn't worry unless your paddlewheel doesnt work(exhausting the opto's)
