After years of wanting, I finally got a Centipede machine. The TB was not tracking, so I took it apart. The axles were rusted and pitted, so I used my wire brush on the bench grinder and removed the rust. The bearings were dragging so I used some Tri-Flo lube and they seemed to be ok. Put it back together and not it does not skip, but it takes three hits of the ball to get from one side of the screen to the other. I would like to hit it once and it go all the way across. What do I need to replace? I see a lot of parts and packages on Bob Roberts site and would like to keep the cost to a minimum...not to mention the fact I hate to buy stuff I don't need. Thanks for any help and advice.

Ive gone through the same problem with both of my Centipedes. Ive found that once you clean the rollers, lightly sand them horizontally with fine sandpaper where the ball contacts them. Besides that, its going to take some breaking in and within about a week of regular play, it will work perfect. Both my Centipedes had TB problems and they both roll smooth as silk, no extra purchases required.

The best investment on any trackball game is a new set of bearings, rollers and a new ball.

Especially if your rollers look like this (Left the old, completely worn one's, on the right, Bob Roberts' new one's.:

IMHO Bob's rollers are the best because instead of plain steel he uses stainless steel which will last much longer and is much smoother.
Plus he greases AND breaks in ALL bearings before selling them !
