I'm about to start my second cap kit project and I feel like I was pretty lucky on my first cap kit attempt (k4600) in that the condition of the board was in great shape.

My question is regarding reflowing solder/cold solder joints, etc. I still have a hard time determining if a solder joint looks bad. Looking at the pics below, do things look bad enough that I should more or less reflow everything? The monitor is working OK, just overall looks like a cap kit would give it some more life.

And while I'm at it, the flyback (nothing oozing, seems fine?)

Apologies if the pics are huge. :)

Its really kinda hard to judge those solder joints from the pics. That monitor doesnt suffer from bad solder like some of the others do (I'm looking at your K4900!).

BTW, looks like caps have already been done. If it aint broke...

it does appear to have a cap kit put on already.

but was it a full kit or not??? the bipolar caps filter and some of the other caps not in a get well kit. check hem to see if they have been changed.

it does not appear that the sound board has not been done.
just change the caps on it no need to replace the 2 transistors if they are not bad.

it also appears that the main chassis and neck board have had some re-flow already done to them.

the remote board usually never needs anything done to it other than the occasional broken pot change.

that is my take on the pics you have posted.

Thanks. I had wondered about the caps on there looking newish, but wasn't sure since I consider myself still a "rookie".

I have a Bob Roberts plus cap kit with audio board caps so I'll just double check all the caps and switch out any that may not have gotten done, etc.

That will save me some time. :)
