So I've been trying to get into this warehouse for a while. I call once a month. Basically one brother was good and had arranged for me to come and take a look. However, he is no longer involved with the operation, as of this summer. The other brother has a rep as lacking any personal skills. I was hoping to get some monitors, control panels etc. They had a flood a few inch deep a few years ago. So the cabs are swollen and such. Now the warehouse is multiple levels. The building's top floor, just had some structural damage done to it this past week, due to fire and snow. I know from a source that he doesn't have any insurance on the building, so I'm hoping this might help motivate him.

The owner is one of those guys that would rather take everything to the dump before allowing a collector get a single thing. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to handle a Operator like this.

I was thinking about offering him, that I would dispose of everything. ie take it to the dump if I was allowed to dismantle and keep what I wanted.

What do you guys think?

I think the guy will probably die with the stuff still in the building.

Get word out that you'll offer $50,000 for everything in the barn, sight unseen.

When he agrees to meet you, walk up and take a good look at him. Then, say: "I didn't realise you were so old / in such bad shape. I think I'll just wait this one out instead." Walk away.

+1 LOL.. extra text because my message was too short.

I had the same issue a few years ago with an op. Finally I walked in his warehouse with cash in hand and said I am ready to buy. Just flash some cash. I got some great games out of it: Scramble, Tron, Venture, Dark Planet, Pacman, Bagman, Defender, Star Trek, Galaxian, Us vs Them, Asteroids, Jungle King, Battlezone, Zoo Keeper, etc. It was about a 25 game lot with two pinball machines. Once I showed the guy that I was serious everything was smooth. Plus I got the game extremely cheap.

Is there something about being an op that requires you to be a hoarder? Do the irrational hoarding tendencies manifest later?

There not even the original operators as I understand it. Their father was, but he passed over a year or so ago. So they have been selling off alot of stuff to a company in Montreal. But due to the water damage in the bottom floor they didn't take any of the cabinets. They did take all the Pins on the top floor. I'm just interested in getting as much as I can before it goes to the dump. Then go Buy all the ____ to jamma adapter and test as many boards as I can.

For all I know, all the boards could be corroded, every marquee and bezel scratched and everything is covered in mold.

I don't know but it seems every single one out there has a warehouse full of dead or obsolete equipment that costs them money to store and will never go up in value.

People in other businesses generally don't operate like that.
