Need Advice: Doing a Deal with Seller who has had customer issues

Don't beat me up to badly here and I am pretty sure what your guys advice will be but here goes.....

I am looking at buying a game with a vendor who had some transactions go bad. A quick google search revealed one disgruntled customer resorted to a small claims suit. Another customer claimed that a bait and switch occurred (customers words). There were several disgruntled buyers so it was not a completely isolated event.

To be fair however, the seller may had 100's of transactions so its certainly no surprise there were some people who were dissatisfied.

It would require shipping the game which is something I have never done before.

Has anyone ever bought and shipped a game COD (cash on delivery)? Is it even possible? Is there any other way of protecting myself? A clearing house that could be used perhaps?? The purchase is outside of ebay not that I think ebay gives a ton of protection...I guess the purchase could be in a form of an ebay auction....

Ok fellas, let me have it....I am an idiot for even considering it? I recently purchased a few items from members on the forum here so I guess that these successful transactions are encouraging me to try and make this work....

Thanks fellas and be gentle...

Ear sir,

urgent and confidential business proposal

i am mariam abacha, widow of the late nigerian head of state, gen. Sani abacha. After he death of my husband who died mysteriously as a result of cardiac arrest, i was informed by our lawyer, bello gambari that, my husband who at that time was the president of nigeria, called him and conducted him round his apartment and showed him four metal boxes containing money all in foreign exchange and he equally made him believe that those boxes are for onward transfer to his overseas counterpart for personal investment.

I would say to move on and make a deal with someone else. I have done hundreds of deals between here and eBay and yes everyone gets a few bad customers, However, he had a lot of really bad customers s sometimes that is a sign that it isn't a customer problem. I think I have had 1 bad feedback on eBay and 1 neutral out of a couple dozen bad customers. Personally I wouldn't get attached to the game and be patient for a more stable deal.

Ok, someone who deals with 1000s of customers will have 1 or 2 bad ones, you cannot please the whole world, sometimes someone like pinball jim is just a &*)&(*), so...pay with something you have protection...

Selling 30 plus year old electronics is a hard business and you are dealing with some people that are off their rocker. If a seller has 100's or 1000's of deals that have gone good that should tell you what you need to know. There is no company in the world that can please 100% of it's customers.. I had a jack off win a eBay auction for a 60 game lot I was clearing for 80 bucks and bitched because they were not working and left negative feedback. You can Google us and a lot of the reviews was added on the same day and points people to another vendor so that should tell you who is posting it. People can post anything about anyone they want. Look at the positive. If you pay with your credit card you are more than likely covered.

have a local member inspect in person and take critical pictures, check out ok for you?... make the deal,

move game to local members place have shipping Co. pick it from there...compensate for help, win.. win.

Sounds like the guy has had issues with items being 'not as described'; basically don't buy it unless you're willing to get a machine that's not in very good shape. If the price is right and the game would be worth it even if it's not that nice, and you don't mind that, go for it.

If you're the type that's looking for a really nice machine... there's no way in hell I'd do that if I were you.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to walk away from this one. The bottom line here is that I have advance warning that the deal may be problematic. It would drive me crazy if I went forward with the deal knowing what I do and have it go sideways. I would quite rightfully feel like an idiot.

I did not go into too much detail regarding the problems the other buyers have had but they actually sounded pretty serious. More than an inaccurate description. Some sounded downright fraudulent to be perfectly honest. Just not worth it.

If the guy's committing fraud, definately don't deal with him.... even if it goes fine for you, you're funding his fraudulent activity and keeping him going longer, ripping off more people.

Best to let something shady like this go, there will be other games. Funny thing is, the next game that comes along is usually better than the one you were looking at!

You never did mention what game it was that you were looking for..

Maybe a KLOVer here has one for sale!

What is it that you're looking for?

I am sort of embarrassed to say the game as its not particularly in high demand or of high value to collectors but I like it and i haven't seen one locally. I am looking for a scramble upright with the spaceman art on the cab. There I said it.

This was the Best solution for the problem IMO. Rep for you!

My suggestion other than that above is only deal with people you can put your hands on!
