Need a tutorial on how to test the major test points on an Asteroids board

I am running through some Asteroids boards and need a little hand holding on how to test the boards at the major test point (ex the watchdog test point). What tool am I using (DMM, Oscilloscope, logic probe ect) and what am I looking for?

Do some googling and you'll find a wealth of information including a few Asteroids repair guides. Anyone who knows me knows that my tool of choice is the oscilloscope. First thing to do after the obvious stuff (bad or bent pins on ROMs, burnt fingers on edge connector, etc.), is to isolate whether it's a digital side or vector controller side issue. There are several methods to uncover this - again consult the guides. Then the analog outputs to the vector monitor is last - stock up on regulators, op amps (TL081 / TL082 / LM324 / 4066 CMOS switch) because if the power supply circuit is bad it usually kills things on the 12V lines. If you repair these boards for someone else insist that they check their power supply circuit including AR board for proper voltages. I'd also get a setup to check out AR bds as well.

Have fun - troubleshooting some of the problems on the vector side can chew up an evening.
